Առաջին Եվրոպական խաղերում բռնցքամարտի Հայաստանի հավաքականի գլխավոր մարզիչ Կարեն Աղամալյանը կարծիք է հայտնել, որ Բաքվում մրցավարությունը ոչ միայն հայ մարզիկների օգտին չի եղել, այլ անգամ ուղղված է եղել մեր բռնցքամարտիկների դեմ:
«Տղաները հոգեբանորեն պատրաստ էին և գիտեին, թե ուր են գնում: Նրանց պետք չէր տրամադրել: Բոլորն էին պատրաստ Եվրոպական խաղերին: Ես գոհ եմ բոլոր տղաներից, ովքեր մեկնեցին Բաքու: Մարդկային առումով հայ բռնցքամարտիկները ցույց տվեցին, որ պատրաստ ենք հաղթահարելու ցանկացած խոչընդոտ», «Արմենպրես»ի հաղորդմամբ՝ այս մասին լրագրողների հետ զրույցում ասաց Աղամալյանը:
Խոսելով երկրպագուների մասին` մարզիչը փաստեց, որ տրիբունաներում կային խմբեր, ովքեր ամեն հայ բռնցքամարտիկի ելույթի ժամանակ երկրպագում էին մրցակիցներին: «Երկրպագուներն իրենց հետ ունեին պաստառներ, սակայն ռասիստական և ֆաշիստական արտահայտություններ չկային: Մրցավարներն էլ, այդ ամենը տեսնելով, ամաչում էին պարզ աչքերով մեզ նայել:
Իսկ մեր տղաներն ամեն մենամարտի դուրս էին գալիս ժպիտով և պարզ ճակատով: Այս ամենից կարելի է հետևություն անել, որ տղաները պատրաստ են պայքարելու անգամ այդ պայմաններում: Եվրոպական խաղերի մեր մասնակիցների մեջ ակնհայտ առաջատար չունեին, և տղաները գիտեին այդ մասին: Մենք պինդ, ամուր թիմ էինք, որը պատրաստ է պայքարելու մինչև վերջ:
