Ուրախ եւ տխուր ծաղրածուն ապրեց ընդամենը 37 տարի. այսօր նրա ծննդյան օրն է

Լեոնիդ Ենգիբարյանը ծնվել է 1935 թվականի մարտի 15-ին Մոսկվայում։ Նրան նկատում էին բոլորը իր յուրահատուկ արտաքինի շնորհիվ։ Նա կարողանում էր դեմքի լուրջ արտահայտությամբ ծիծաղեցնել եւ ժպիտի միջոցով հուզել հանդիսատեսին։ «Նպատակս եւ երջանկությունս սերտ կապված են, բայց ես չեմ հավատում երջանիկ ավարտին, ես հավատում եմ երջանիկ ընթացքին։ Ես երջանիկ մարդ եմ, բոլոր ցանկություններս վաղ թե ուշ իրականանում են»,- այսպիսին էր Ենգիբարյանի սպասելիքներն աշխարհից։
Մինչ ծաղրածու դառնալը Ենգիբարյանը 9 տարի զբաղվել է պրոֆեսիոնալ բռնցքամարտով՝ գրանցելով լուրջ արդյունքներ։ Սակայն, երբ 1955 թվականին Կրկեսային արվեստի պետական ուսումնարանում բացվում է կլոունադայի բաժինը՝ Լեոնիդը նախընտրում է ծաղրածուի մասնագիտությունը։ Ավարտելուց հետո գալիս է Երևան և ընդունվում հայկական կրկեսախումբ։
Ավելի ուշ նա Երևանի մասին գրելու էր․ «Մի քանի խոսք Երեւանի մասին։ Մի անգամ, երբ աշունը, իջնելով լեռներից, քաղաքի փողոցները դարձրեց շագանակաոսկեգույն, քաղաք եկավ ծաղրածուն։ Չգիտեմ, գուցե նա սիրահարվեց երկարոտն ու թուխ աղջկան, կամ գուցե դա հեքիաթ է․․․Բայց ճիշտ է, որ նա աչքերում աշնանային անձրեւները լի հեռացավ»։ Ենգիբարյանի՝ բեմում ստեղծած լուսավոր և ողբերգական կերպարները հասկանալի ու հարազատ էին բոլորի համար անկախ տարիքից։
Նա կոտրեց ծաղրածուի մասին ընդունված կարծրատիպերը. դեմքին չկար նկարված ժպիտ, հոնքեր, չէր դնում մեծ քիթ, չէր հագնում փքված տաբատ և հսկայական կոշիկներ։ Ամեն ինչ արտահայտվում էր մարմնի լեզվով և դիմախաղով։ «Ես այնպիսին չեմ, ինչպիսին բոլորը։ Ախր ծաղրածուն չի էլ կարող լինել ինչպես բոլորը։ Ծաղրածուն մասնագիտություն չէ, աշխարհայացք է»,- իրեն ներկայացրել էր ծաղրածուն։ Բայց նաև խոստովանել էր, որ վախենում է բարեկեցությունից։ Իր կարճատեւ ստեղծագործական կյանքի ընթացքում նա հասցրեց թե գրել, թե նկարահանվել և թե սիրվել ու գնահատվել։
Լեոնիդ Ենգիբարյանը մահացել է Մոսկվայում 1972թ․-ին սրտի կաթվածից։
