Армянская Апостольская Церковь 7 апреля отмечает один из самых важных праздников – Благовещение Пресвятой Богородицы.

О Благовещении Св. Марии повествует Евангелие от Луки (см. Лук. 1:26-38). Согласно преданию, Ангел Гавриил явился Св. Деве в то время, когда она читала отрывок из Книги пророка Исаии о рождении Спасителя от Девы, и думала, кто же будет этой блаженной Девой. Ангел вошел к ней и сказал: «Не бойся, Мария, ибо Ты обрела благодать у Бога; и вот, зачнешь во чреве, и родишь Сына, и наречешь Ему имя: Иисус. Он будет велик и наречется Сыном Всевышнего … Дух Святый найдет на тебя, и сила Всевышнего осенит Тебя, посему и рождаемое Святое наречется Сыном Божиим».

Именно от Нее должен родиться долгожданный Спаситель миру, Мессия, Который будет царствовать во веки и Его Царству не будет конца. Св. Мария не могла не предвидеть те мучения и страдания, которые выпадут на ее долю, однако, показав человечеству прекрасный пример смирения Божией воле, она ответила: «… се, раба Господня; да будет Мне по слову твоему». Зачатие Пресвятой Девы произошло именно в тот момент, когда она произнесла эти слова. Свершилось великое событие в жизни всего человечества — Архангел Гавриил в святом благовествованиии принес радостную весть о том, что настало избавление, что Христос, обетованный Мессия, родится от Девы Марии.

Распоряжением Католикоса Всех Армян Гарегина II праздник Благовещения провозглашен Днем благословения материнства. Во всех армянских церквах в этот день совершается обряд благословения матерей.
