«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Մարդկության պատմությունը միայն բազմաթիվ դասագրքերը, կավե բեկորներն ու փոշոտ ձեռագրերը չեն։ Կան նաև անցյալի կենդանի վկաներ, որոնք են ընտանի կենդանիների ցեղատեսակները և բույսերի տարատեսակները։ Եվ դրանցից ամենահետաքրքիրը նրանք չեն, որոնք ունեն առավելագույն արտադրողականություն և աճեցվում են հսկայական քանակությամբ ամբողջ աշխարհում։ Դրանք այն տարատեսակներն են, որոնք պահպանվել են տարբեր երկրների «խուլ անկյուններում» ու գործնականում անձեռնմխելի են մնացել։ Նման բույսերի շարքերում ներառված են նաև խաղողի ավտոխրոն՝ տեղական տեսակները:

Ինչպես գիտենք, աշխարհում եղել են հնագույն խաղողագործության տասնյակ կենտրոններ, և այդ շրջաններում պահպանվել են խաղողի տասնյակ կամ նույնիսկ հարյուրավոր տեղական տեսակներ, որոնք հարյուրավոր ու հազարավոր տարիներ օգտագործվել են տեղական գինու արտադրության համար։ Այսինքն, հիմա էլ հնարավորություն կա ճաշակելու այն գինին, որ խմել են, օրինակ՝ Թամարա թագուհին կամ սիցիլիական ավազակները, կամ որը մատուցվել է հույն հռետորների կամ հռոմեացի կոնսուլների սեղանին։ Իհարկե, ոչ ոք 100 տոկոսանոց երաշխիք չի տա, բայց այն, ինչ նրանք, հավանաբար, խմել են, հնարավոր է խմել և հիմա: Հին որթատունկեր կարելի է գտնել Վրաստանում և Հայաստանում, Ղրիմում և Լիբանանում, Իտալիայում և Ֆրանսիայում, Պորտուգալիայում և Իսպանիայում, Բալկաններում և նույնիսկ Չինաստանում: Որոշ վայրերում խաղողի հին տեսակները միտումնավոր են պահպանվում, որոշ տեղերում դրանց պարզապես թույլ են տալիս աճել անձնական հողատարածքների վրա, և կամաց-կամաց փոխարինվում են խաղողի ավելի հայտնի և արդյունավետ տեսակներով: Ինչո՞ւ է պետք պահպանել խաղողի ավտոխրոն տեսակները: Նախ՝ քանի որ դեպքերի ճնշող մեծամասնությունում դրանք չափազանց պահանջկոտ չեն և իդեալականորեն են հարմարեցված տեղական պայմաններին:

Երկրորդ հերթին՝ դրանք կարող են օգտագործվել սելեկցիոն աշխատանքներում խաղողի նոր տեսակներ ստեղծելու համար:

Երրորդ հերթին՝ շատ գինիներ պատրաստվում են տեղական խաղողի տեսակների հավելումներով, այնպես, որ գինիները ձեռք են բերում ոչ միայն նոր համ և բուրմունք, այլ նաև մի այնպիսի յուրահատուկ համ ու հոտ, ինչը նրանց տարբերում է մյուս գինիներից: Հավանաբար նկատել եք, որ գինին նկարագրելիս հաճախ նշվում է հիմքը՝ օգտագործված խաղողի մեկ կամ երկու տեսակը, ինչպիսիք են կաբերնեն կամ մուսկատը, որոնց ավելացվում է տեղական որոշ տեսականի:
