В Мексике обнаружили статую из вулканического камня, которая использовалась древними майя во время ритуалов

Согласно сообщению Национального института антропологии и истории Мексики, во время строительства рынка в Пацкуаро в августе археологи обнаружили огромную скульптуру человека, лежащего на спине и держащего камень.
По словам исследователей, скульптура весит около 440 фунтов, ее длина составляет около 3 футов, а высота - 2,5 фута. Она вырезана из авгитового андезита - темно-черного пористого вулканического камня.
По словам официальных лиц, статуя была доставлена к исследователям после того, как ее нашли разобранной, и благодаря консервации и очистке ей удалось вернуть первоначальную форму и цвет.
Камень был вырезан майя в поздний постклассический период, между 1350 и 1521 годами.
Изображение лежащего человека является классическим для чакмула - ритуального стола, который использовался в доиспанские времена. Археологи полагают, что он использовался в церемониях жертвоприношения и подношения.
