«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Կարմիր հրապարակը Մոսկվայի գլխավոր խորհրդանիշն ու ամենահայտնի պատմական վայրն է։ Այն գտնվում է Կենտրոնական վարչական շրջանում՝ Կրեմլի և Կիտայ-Գորոդի միջև։ Կարմիր հրապարակը և դրա վրա տեղակայված ճարտարապետական կառույցները ներառված են ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի համաշխարհային ժառանգության ցանկում։ Սա պատմական վայր է, որը այցելել, կարելի է ասել, պարտադիր է օտարերկրացիների համար: Մոսկվացիները Կարմիր հրապարակը նաև համարում են «մայրաքաղաքի սիրտը» և ուրախ են Նոր տարին նշել այնտեղ, ներկա լինել Մայիսի 9-ի շքերթին կամ սովորական արևոտ հանգստյան օրերին զբոսնել տպավորիչ սալաքարերի վրա:

Ռուսական պատմության պաշտամունքային իրադարձությունների այդ հրապարակը զբաղեցնում է 23100 քմ տարածք, ընդ որում՝ այն ունի բավականին ձգված տեսք՝ երկարությունը 330 մ է, լայնությունը՝ 70 մ։ Կարմիր հրապարակը հետիոտնային գոտի է, այդտեղ արգելված է տրանսպորտի մուտքը: Մոտակա մետրոյի կայարաններն են Օխոտնի Ռյադը, Տեատրալնայան, Պլոշչադ Ռևոլ յուցիին։ 1493 թվականին Մոսկվայի հրդեհի ժամանակ այրվել էր Կրեմլի հարևանությամբ գտնվող Մեծ Պոսադի փայտե շինությունների զգալի մասը։ Ազատված տարածքի վրա, որը 240 մ լայնությամբ շերտ էր, որոշվեց ոչինչ չկառուցել, արևմուտքում դրա սահմանները հարում էին Կրեմլին, արևելքում՝ շուկային, իսկ հարավում՝ մի ցածր բլուրի։

Հենց այդ ազատված տարածքի հայտնվելով էլ սկսվել է ներկայիս Կարմիր հրապարակի շինարարությունը։ Դեպի Կարմիր հրապարակ էին տանում Մոսկվայի երեք գլխավոր փողոցները՝ Նիկոլսկայան, Իլ յինկան և Վարվարկան։ Նրանց արանքում վրաններ, շարժական վաճառքի կետեր ու խրճիթներ կային, ուստի այդ տարածքը հաճախ համարվում էր շուկա։ Ինքնաբուխ առևտրի գոտու ընդլայնումը կանխելու համար 16-րդ դարի վերջին որոշվեց հստակորեն սահմանել դրա սահմանները քարից պատրաստված հատուկ առևտրականների պալատների օգնությամբ։ Նոր շենքերը սահմանափակեցին հրապարակի տարածքը արևել յան մասում և կազմեցին երեք թաղամաս։ Հետագայում նրանցից յուրաքանչյուրը ստացավ իր անունը՝ Վերին, Միջին և Ստորին առևտրային շարք: Արտաքինից կառույցները նման էին միատիպ բջիջների՝ միավորված կամարներով։

Նմանատիպ արտաքին նմուշներ կարելի է գտնել նաև կառուցված բազմաթիվ ժամանակակից այլ շենքերում: Նախորդ դարերում Ռուսաստանի կենտրոնական հրապարակը մի քանի անվանում է ունեցել: Վաղ տարբերակներից տարածված էին Երրորդության և Պոժար հրապարակ անվանումները: Առաջինը կապված էր մոտակա եկեղեցու անվան հետ, իսկ երկրորդը պայմանավորված էր նրանով, որ երկար ժամանակ այդտեղ կային բազմաթիվ փայտե շինություններ, որոնք անընդհատ հրդեհվում էին։ 17-րդ դարի սկզբին Սուրբ Մարիամ Աստվածածնի տաճարին և Լոբնիյ վայրին հարող տարածքը սկսեց կոչվել Կարմիր հրապարակ։

Այդ համատեքստում «կարմիր» բառը նշանակում էր «գեղեցիկ»: Այդ անվանումը հետագայում տարածվեց Կրեմլի մերձակայքում գտնվող ողջ տարածքի վրա և պաշտոնական մակարդակով հաստատվեց ցար Ալեքսեյ Միխայլովիչի հրամանագրով։ Հարկ է նշել, որ այդ օրերին Մոսկվա այցելած շատ օտարերկրացիներ հրապարակն անվանել են «շուկա» կամ «առևտրի վայր»: Իվան Ահեղի օրոք էլ այն հաճախ կոչվում էր «մեծ հրապարակ»:
