«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Զուռնան լեզվակային փողային երաժշտական գործիք է: Այն իր զիլ ու սուր, ճչացող ձայնով փոքր-ինչ մոտ է պարկապզուկին, բայց ավելի «ծակող» երանգով է, ինչով առանձնանում է մյուս բոլոր փողային նվագարաններից: Զուռնայի հայրենիքը համարվում է Հայկական լեռնաշխարհը: Հին Հունաստանում զուռնայի նախորդին անվանել են ավլոս: Այն օգտագործվել է թատերական ներկայացումների, զոհաբերությունների և ռազմական արշավների ժամանակ: Իսկ ավլոս անվանման ծագումը կապված է առասպելական երաժիշտ Օլիմպոսի անվան հետ: Ավլոսը իր ճանաչումն է գտել Դիոնիսոսի մեղեդիների մեջ: Հետագայում այն տարածվել է Ասիայի, Մերձավոր և Միջին Արևելքի պետություններում: Այդ պատճառով էլ զուռնան տարածված է Աֆղանստանում, Իրանում, Հայաստանում, Վրաստանում, Թուրքիայում, Ուզբեկստանում, Տաջիկստանում և այլն: Զուռնան հանրահայտ է դարձել նաև Ռուսաստանում, որտեղ այն կոչել են սուռնա: Հայաստանում լայնորեն տարածված հնագույն գործիք է։

Իսկ ահա սասունցիների շրջանում նվագարանն ունի փող անվանումը, որը ևս շատ տրածված է հայության շրջանում: Ընդհանրապես, զուռնան համարվում է հայկական ամենասիրված գործիքներից և օգտագործվում է ժողովրդական տոնակատարությունների, հարսանիքների և այլ ուրախ արարողությունների ժամանակ: Պարսկաստանում ևս զուռնան օգտագործվել է հնագույն ժամանակներից: Այն ժողովրդականորեն կոչվել է «գարա զուռնա»: Անունը կապված է գործիքի տեսքի և ձայնի հետ: Զուռնա նվագել են հարսանիքների, խաղերի ու մարզական մրցումների, ավանդական ծեսերի ժամանակ: Ներկայումս զուռնայի նման մի քանի գործիք կա: Դրանցից են ավլոսը, որի մասին խոսեցինք, և հոբոյը, որը զուռնայի փոխարինողն է սիմֆոնիկ նվագախմբերում: Վերջինս ունի մեծ դիապազոն և օգտագործվում է քնարական մեղեդիներ նվագելու համար:

Զուռնան պատրաստում են փայտի այնպիսի կարծր տեսակներից, ինչպիսիք են ծիրանենին, թթենին կամ ընկուզենին, իսկ լեզվակը՝ պիպիչը, եղեգից: Զուռնան իրենից ներկայացնում է փայտե փող, որը ծայրում ավելի լայն է։ Ուղիղ, աստիճանաբար լայնացող փողը մի կողմից ունի ութ, հակառակ կողմից՝ մեկ ձայնանցք։ Վերևի մասում հագցվում է ձայնի օղակաձև կարգավորիչը, որը ներառում է ձայնավերարտադրման վերադիր սարքավորումը՝ մետաղե կամ այլ նյութից շրջանակը, որի կենտրոնում գտնվող բարակ գլանի վրա տեղադրված է փչելու երկլեզվակ հարմարանքը՝ պիպիչը։ Նվագելու ձայնը արտադրվում է ռնգային շնչառությամբ: Նվագելու համար գործիքը բերանին է դրվում փոքր թեքությամբ: Կարճ երաժշտության համար երաժիշտը շնչում է բերանով, իսկ երկարի ժամանակ նվագելիս կատարողը պետք է շնչի քթի միջոցով: Սովորականից ավելի թավ ձայնով զուռնայի տեսակը կոչվում է բոռոզա։ Կան վարպետ կատարողներ, ովքեր նվագում են երկու զուռնայով միաժամանակ՝ մեկով հնչեցնելով մեղեդին, իսկ մյուսով՝ դամը։ Երգացանկը բազմազան է ու հարուստ։
