Արթնացել է Սիցիլիա կղզում գտնվող Եվրոպայի ամենաբարձր գործող հրաբխի՝ էտնայի խոշոր խառնարաններից մեկը՝ մոխրի և ծխի սյուներ դուրս նետելով ծովի մակարդակից մինչև 4500 մետր բարձրության վրա։ Շիկացած լավայի հոսքերը 3300 մետր բարձրությունից հոսել են լանջերով։

Էտնայի ակտիվությունն առայժմ մնում է միջինից ցածր, սակայն Իտալիայի իշխանությունները ցնցումների նախազգուշացման մակարդակը կանաչից բարձրացրել են դեղինի զգուշանալով, որ իրավիճակը կարող է կտրուկ փոխվել:
ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի համաշխարհային ժառանգության ցանկում ընդգրկված Էտնայի բարձրությունը 3357 մետր է։ Հրաբխն ունի 200-ից 400 կողային հրաբխային խառնարաններ: Նրանցից լավա է ժայթքում մի քանի ամիսը մեկ։
Էտնայի ակտիվացմանը լրացրել է նաև Տիրենյան ծովում Էոլյան կղզիների արշիպելագում գտնվող
Ստրոմբոլի հրաբխի ժայթքումը, որի բարձրությունը ծովի մակերևույթից՝ 926 մ է ծովի հատակից՝ 2700 մ:
