ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղարությունն ու պետքարտուղար Բլինկենը շարունակում են խորապես ներգրավված լինել Ադրբեջանում պահվող հայ գերիների վերադարձի հարցում։ Այս մասին, պատասխանելով Բաքվի բանտերում անազատության մեջ պահվող հայ ռազմագերիների վերաբերյալ հարցին, հայտարարել է ԱՄՆ պետդեպարտամենտի փոխխոսնակ Վենդետ Պատելը՝ միևնույն ժամանակ ընդգծելով, որ գործընթացի հետ կապված նորություն չունի։
Ճեպազրույցի ժամանակ լրագրողը շեշտել է, որ արդեն չորս տարի է՝ Ադրբեջանի բանտերում հայ ռազմագերիներ են պահվում և շուրջ մեկ տարի է, ինչ Ադրբեջանի կողմից հերթական չհրահրված հարձակումից հետո Բաքվի բանտերում են նաև Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հայ քաղաքական գործիչները։ Նա նաև հղում է արել Freedom House-ին՝ նշելով, որ Ադրբեջանի վերահսկողության տակ անցնելուց հետո Ղարաբաղի տարածքն ամենաանազատն է աշխարհում և այդ առումով գերազանցում է անգամ Հյուսիսային Կորեային, Վենեսուելային, Սիրիային ու Աֆղանստանին, ինչպես նաև հետաքրքրվելով, թե արդյոք Վաշինգտոնը հետևում է Լեռնային Ղարաբաղում տիրող իրավիճակին և կարող է արդյոք ԱՄՆ վարչակազմն է օգնել Բաքվում կալանավորված հայերի ազատ արձակմանը։
«Ինչ վերաբերում է Հարավային Կովկասում ավելի լայն իրավիճակին, ապա ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղարությունը և պետքարտուղարը շարունակում են խորապես ներգրավված լինել: Ձեր նշած գործընթացի հետ կապված նորություններ չունեմ։ Բայց երբ խոսքը վերաբերում է կալանավորներին, մենք հստակ և հետևողական պնդում ենք, որ ցանկացած երկիր պետք է բոլոր կալանավորների նկատմամբ արժանապատիվ վերաբերմունք ցուցաբերի՝ միջազգային իրավունքի նորմերին համապատասխան, և պետք է հարգի նրանց իրավունքները», - պատասխանել է Պատելը։
