Վրաստանի նախագահ Սալոմե Զուրաբիշվիլին սոցցանցերում տարածել է ԱՄՆ նախագահ Ջո Բայդենից ստացած նամակը, որը հղվել է 2008 թվականի օգոստոսյան պատերազմի 16-րդ տարելիցի կապակցությամբ և արտահայտում է Միացյալ Նահանգների «անսասան» աջակցությունը Վրաստանի տարածքային ամբողջականությանն ու ինքնիշխանությանը։
«Այս օրը մենք հիշում ենք Ռուսաստանի դաժան ներխուժման հետևանքով սպանվածներին, վիրավորներին և ներքին տեղահանվածներին, ինչպես նաև ականատես ենք լինում Կրեմլի մշտական փորձին՝ ուժեղացնել իր գերիշխանությունը օկուպացված շրջանների վրա՝ տեղի բնակչության հաշվին։ Միացյալ Նահանգները շարունակում է մնալ միջազգայնորեն ճանաչված սահմաններում Վրաստանի ինքնիշխանության և տարածքային ամբողջականության ամուր ջատագովը», - նշել է Բայդենը:
Նա ընդգծել է վրաց ժողովրդի վճռական կամքը՝ շարունակելու արտահայտել իր եվրատլանտյան ձգտումները։
«Միացյալ Նահանգները ողջունում է վրաց ժողովրդի անդրդվելի հավատարմությունը ժողովրդավարական ապագային... Հիասթափված եմ Վրաստանի կառավարության հակաժողովրդավարական գործողություններից, որոնց օրինակներից է կրեմլյան «օտարերկրյա գործակալների» օրենքը և վրացի պաշտոնյաների կեղծ հայտարարությունները, որոնք չեն համապատասխանում ԵՄ-ին և ՆԱՏՕ-ին անդամակցության չափանիշներին: Չնայած այս քայլերին՝ մենք հավատարիմ ենք մնում Վրաստանի ժողովրդին և նրա եվրաատլանտյան ձգտումներին։
Երկկողմ հարաբերությունների 32 տարիների ընթացքում Վրաստանը և Միացյալ Նահանգները միասին աշխատել են՝ պաշտպանելու խաղաղությունը, կայունությունը, ազատությունը և մարդու իրավունքները։ Այս ընդհանուր արժեքները միավորում են մեր երկրները, և ես գիտեմ, որ այդ արժեքները կմիավորեն մեր ժողովուրդներին ապագայում», - նշել է Բայդենը:
