Օգոստոսի 12-ին, տեղական ժամանակով ժամը 2.02-ին, Հայաստանի Հանրապետության Մարտունի քաղաքից 9 կմ հյուսիս-արևմուտք 10 կմ խորության վրա գրանցվել է 4,2 մագնիտուդով երկրաշարժ, որի ուժգնությունը էպիկենտրոնում, ըստ MSK-64 սանդղակի, կազմել է 5-6 բալ: Այս մասին հայտնում են ՆԳՆ-ից։
«Այն զգացվել է Գեղարքունիքի մարզում՝ 5 բալ, Կոտայքի մարզում՝ 4 բալ և Երևան քաղաքում՝ 2-3 բալ ուժգնությամբ։ Երկրաշարժին հաջորդել է 1 մագնիտուդից փոքր 10 հետցնցում (օգոստոսի 12-ի ժամը 10.00-ի դրությամբ):
Երկրաշարժի էպիկենտրոնը գտնվում է Գավառագետի և Գեղամայի ակտիվ խզվածքային գոտում։ Հայտնի պատմական ուժեղ երկրաշարժերը այս գոտում տեղի են ունեցել 1226 և 1322 թվականներին համապատասխանաբար M=6.0 և M=6.5: Գործիքային շրջանում ամենաբարձր մագնիտուդով երկրաշարժը տեղի է ունեցել 1992 թվականի դեկտեմբերի 9-ին M=5,0:
ՆԳՆ Սեյսմիկ պաշտպանության տարածքային ծառայությունում շուրջօրյա ռեժիմով կատարվում է ՀՀ և հարակից տարածքների սեյսմիկ մոնիթորինգ: Մշակվում և մեկնաբանվում են դիտակայաններից ստացվող տվյալները: Պարբերաբար գնահատվում է ընթացիկ սեյսմիկ վտանգը: Այս պահի դրությամբ ուժեղ երկրաշարժի սպառնալիքի հավանականությունը փոքր է, սակայն օջախային գոտում հնարավոր է թույլ հետցնցում, որը կարող է զգացվել բնակչության կողմից»,-նշվում է հաղորդագրության մեջ։
