ՆԳՆ Սեյսմիկ պաշտպանության տարածքային ծառայության տնօրեն Սոս Մարգարյանը ներկայացրել է վերջին երկրաշարժի մասին տեղեկատվություն: Ինչպես հայտնել էինք, օգոստոսի 12-ին, տեղական ժամանակով ժամը 02:02-ին գրանցվել էր հյուսիսային լայնության 40․20⁰ և արևելյան երկայնության 45.22⁰ աշխարհագրական կոորդինատներով՝ Հայաստան՝ Մարտունի քաղաքից 9 կմ հյուսիս-արևմուտք, օջախի 10 կմ խորությամբ 4.2 մագնիտուդով երկրաշարժ:
Էպիկենտրոնային գոտում ստորգետնյա ցնցման ուժգնությունը կազմել էր 5-6 բալ:
Երկրաշարժը զգացվել էր Գեղարքունիքի մարզում՝ 5 բալ, Կոտայքի մարզում՝ 4 բալ և Երևան քաղաքում՝ 2-3 բալ ուժգնությամբ։

Ասուլիսի ժամանակ լրագրողները հետաքրքրվել են՝ Երևանում 7-9 բալ ուժգնությամբ երկրաշարժ հնարավո՞ր է, եթե այո, որքանո՞վ ենք դրան պատրաստ. «Երևանը սեյսմիկ վտանգի քարտեզի վրա համարվում է 9 բալանոց գոտի: Խորհրդային միության ժամանակ ունեինք հետևյալ խնդիրը՝ սեյսմիկ վտանգը ՀՀ ամբողջ տարածքի համար թերագնահատված էր: Եթե այսօր ունենք 8-9-10 բալանոց գոտիներ, ԽՄ քարտեզի համապատասխան՝ ունեինք ընդամենը երկու գոտի՝ 7-8 բալանոց, հետևաբար կառուցապատումն իրականացվել է 7-8 բալերի համար: Երբ ասում ենք՝ ունենք բարձր սեյսմիկ ռիսկ, շենքերը խոցել են, պատճառը հենց դա է: Եթե Երևանում ունենանք 9 բալանոց երկրաշարժ, կունենանք հետևանքներ»,- ասել է Մարգարյանը:
