Բերմուդյան կղզիների մերձակայքում լողացող խոշոր գիշատիչ շնաձկանը խժռել է ավելի մեծ շնաձուկը, որը նույնիսկ կուլ է տվել իրեն ամրացկված հսկող սարքը։

Ըստ գիտնականների՝ սա նմանատիպ առաջին արձանագրված դեպքն է։ Ծովային շնաձկների (Lamna nasus) երկարությունը հասնում է մոտ 3,6 մետրի։ Այս խոշոր շնաձկները ապրում են Ատլանտյան օվկիանոսի Հյուսիսային հատվածում, ինչպես նաև Հարավային կիսագնդի օվկիանոսների որոշ հատվածներում՝ ընդհուպ մինչև Անտարկտիկա:

Frontiers in Marine Science հանդեսում հրապարակված հոդվածում գիտնականները նկարագրել են այն դեպք, երբ ծովային շնաձկանը խժռել է նրա ավելի խոշոր ցեղակիցը:

«Սա աշխարհի ցանկացած վայրում ծովային շնաձկան գիշատչություն առաջին փաստագրված դեպքն է»,-ասում է Հյուսիսային Կարոլինայի շրջակա միջավայրի որակի գծով  ծովային ձկնաբուծության կենսաբան, հետազոտության առաջատար հեղինակ Բրուկ Անդերսոնը:

Հղի էգ շնաձկանը պիտակվել էր Քեյփ Քոդի մերձակայքում 2020 թվականի հոկտեմբերին՝ օգտագործելով արբանյակային հաղորդիչ և արխիվային պիտակ (PSAT): Այս սարքավարումներից ստացված տվյալները ժամանակի ընթացքում շնաձկների սուզման խորությանը և աշխարհագրական տիրույթին հետևելու համար են նախատեսված եղել:

Այս դեպքում մինչև 2020 թվականի դեկտեմբերը շնաձուկը մակերևույթից մինչև 100 մ խորության վրա էր, երբ ցերեկը սկսեց սուզվել մինչև 800 մ խորության վրա, իսկ գիշերը «ոտքը կախ էր գցում»  մոտ 200 մետր խորության վրա: Այս օրինաչափությունը նա պահպանում էր դեպի հարավ՝ Բերմուդյան կղզիների ջրերը շարժվելիս:

2021 թվականի մարտի 24-ին ջերմաստիճանի խորության հետ փոխկապակցված ցուցանիշները կտրուկ փոխվեցին:

Մինչդեռ շնաձուկը նախկինում տեղափոխվել էր ջրերում, որոնց ջերմաստիճանը տատանվում էր 43,5-ից մինչև 74,3 աստիճան ըստ Ֆարենհայթի (6,4-ից մինչև 23,52 աստիճան ըստ Ցելսիուսի), այդ օրը հսկող սարքը գրանցեց 61,5-ից մինչև 76,5 աստիճան ըստ Ֆարենհայթի (16,4-24,72 աստիճան ըստ Ցելսիուսի), թեև խորությունը մնացել է նույն միջակայքում։

Հետազոտողները ենթադրում են, որ այս տեղաշարժը նշանակում է, որ շնաձկանը կցված հսկող սարքն այդ ժամանակ արդեն մեկ այլ շնաձկան ստամոքսում էր, քանի որ ջերմաստիճանն ավելի բարձր էր, քան այդ խորություններում կարող էր լինել:

Ըստ հոդվածի հեղինակների՝ հիմնվելով շնաձկների աշխարհագրական տիրույթի վրա, որոնք բավական մեծ են ծովային պերկես ուտելու համար, գիշատիչը, ամենայն հավանականությամբ, կամ մեծ սպիտակ շնաձուկ (Carcharodon carcharias) է եղել, կամ կարճաթև մակո (Isurus oxyrhinchus):

Սպիտակ շնաձկան ի հայտ գալն ավելի հավանական է թվում՝ հաշվի առնելով խորությունների առավել կայուն դիապազոնը, որտեղ հսկող սարքը կուլ էին տվել:
