Մետրոպոլիտանի արվեստի թանգարանում է գտնվում երաժշտական ամենատարօրինակ գործիքը, որը կարելի է երբևէ տեսնել։ 19-րդ դարում ստեղծված այս գործիքը պատրաստված է աֆրիկացու գանգից։ Պատմության գրքերում հնարավոր չէ որևէ տեղեկություն գտնել գործիքի ծագման մասին, քանի որ որևէ ցեղ կամ ավանդույթ չունի մարդու գանգից երաժշտական գործիք պատրաստելու գաղափարը։ Ինչևէ, գանգին ամրացված այծքաղի եղջյուրները ենթադրում են, որ այն հատուկ է արվել վաճառականի կողմից, ով փորձել է հավելյալ գումար վաստակել՝ գնորդին համոզելով, որ գանգն ինչ-որ հրեշի է պատկանել։
4 Կենցաղային իրեր
Նախաացտեկյան քաղաքակրթության մարդիկ, ովքեր ապրում էին Տեոտիհուական քաղաքի տարածքում, մարդու ոսկորները նրա մահվանից հետո օգտագործում էին ամեն տեսակ կենցաղային իրեր պատրաստելու համար։ Հետաքրքիր է, որ հնագետները, ոսկրերից պատրաստված իրերն ուսումնասիրելով, հայտնաբերել են, որ նրանք բացառապես տեղաբնիկների ոսկորներ են օգտագործել։ Նրանք նաև երբեք չեն օգտագործել երեխաների ոսկորներ, հնարավոր է այն պատճառով, որ դրանք կարող էին բավականաչափ ամուր չհամարվել՝ պինդ գործիքներ պատրաստելու համար։

Արվեստագետ Փոլի Վան դեր Գլասը, ինչպես շատ զարդագործներ, սիրում է մատանիներ պատրաստել, սակայն ի տարբերություն շատ զարդագործների՝ նա ամեն տեսակ բնական թանկարժեք ու կիսաթանկարժեք քարերի փոխարեն սիրում է մարդու ատամներ օգտագործել։ Թե ինչու է նա դա անում, այդ մասին գրում է իր կայքում.
Երբ ատամներն ու մազերն ամրացված են մեր մարմնին, մենք գովերգում ենք դրանք։ Դրանք մարմնի գեղեցկության գլխավոր ատրիբուտներն են, սակայն թափվելուց հետո դրանց իմաստն ու արժեքը կտրուկ փոխվում է։ Ես հետազոտում եմ այս փոխակերպումն ու փորձում այն օգտագործել գեղեցկության մասին գաղափարները վերաձևակերպելու համար։
2 Շիպե Տոտոկի քրմի ծիսական հագուստը
Շիպե Տոտոկն ացտեկների աստվածն էր։ Ացտեկները հավատացած էին, որ նա բուժում է իրենց հիվանդությունները, պաշտպանում նրանց պատերազմների ժամանակ ու օգնում երիտասարդ տղաներին չափահաս դառնալ։ Մարտ ամսին իրենց աստծուն նվիրված պաշտամունքի օրը, որը «Տլակախիպեհուալիզտիլ» էր կոչվում և թարգմանվում որպես «մաշկած մարդու վարք», քրմերը պատրաստում էին իրենց հագուստները։ Այդ հանդերձը պատրաստելն այնքան էլ հեշտ չէր։ Այն պատրաստվում էր միմյանց հետ մարտնչող ռազմագերիներից մեկի՝ պարտվողի մաշկից։ Ստացված հանդերձը պետք է 20 օր ցուցադրության հանվեր, իսկ հետո քուրմը պետք է դրանով պարեր քաղաքում, որպեսզի իրենց աստվածը նրանց առատ բերք տար։
