Հաճախ հնագույն հայտնագործությունները տեղի են ունենում հնագիտական պեղումների ժամանակ, բայց երբեմն դրանք կարելի է գտնել հենց սեփական տան հետնաբակում։

Այդպես պատահեց նաեւ Մայքլ Բոյլի հետ։ Բոյլը աշխատանքներ էր կատարում իր ֆերմայում, Դոնեգալ կոմսությունում, երբ հայտնաբերեց ճահճային կարագի մի հին կտոր։

Հին ժամանակներում կաթի կամ կենդանական յուղը թաղում էին ճահճում, փայտե անոթում, որպես նվիրատվություն աստվածներին կամ ոգիներին, տեղեկացրել է The Irish News-ը։

Ճահճային կարագի անոթի հատակին Բոյլի ֆերմայում եղել է փայտի ոչ մեծ կտոր, պատմել է Բոյլը Irish Examiner-ի պարբերականի հարցազրույցում։ Դա, ամենայն հավանականությամբ, վկայում է այն մասին, որ ճահճային կարագը մի ժամանակ գտնվել է փայտե տարայում, որը քայքայվել է ժամանակի ընթացքում։

Ճահճային կարագի հայտնաբերումը բավական հաճախակի երեւույթ է Իռլանդիայում եւ Շոտլանդիայում, Իռլանդիայում գրանցվել է մոտ 500 նման նյութ։

Սակայն այս գտածոն հատկապես ինքնատիպ է իր մեծ չափերով, եւ այն լրիվ կարող է լինել «ճահճային կարագի» ամենամեծ կտորներից մեկը, որոնք գտնվել են Իռլանդիայում այսօրվա դրությամբ», ասել է հնագետ Պաուլա Հարվին, որն այցելել է ֆերմա։
