Փաշինյանի արհամարհանքը և եկեղեցուն հասցրած անարգանքը

«Պատմական անբեկանելի ճշմարտություն է՝ մարտնչել Սուրբ Էջմիածնի դեմ նշանակում է մարտնչել հայոց ինքնության և գոյության դեմ, հարված հասցնել հայոց պետականությանը և հայ կյանքը պարպել ազգային ու հոգևոր բովանդակությունից», - Մայր Տաճարի վերաօծման արարողության առթիվ պատգամում ասել է Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոս Գարեգին Երկրորդ կաթողիկոսը։
Հայ առաքելական եկեղեցին արարողությանը հրավիրել էր նաև գործող իշխանություններին, թեև տևական ժամանակ եկեղեցու և իշխանության հարաբերությունները չափազանց բարդ են եղել։ ՀԱԵ-ի ներկայացուցիչներն այսօր էլ ասում են, թե դիրքորոշման փոփոխություն չի եղել, նախկինի պես պահանջում են գործող իշխանության հեռացումը։ Բայց դա չի խանգարել, որ Փաշինյանին ու մյուսներին հրավիրեն արարաողությանը։
Փաշինյանը ներկայացել էր հարյուրավոր ուղեկիցներով, ոստիկաններով։ Սուրբ պատարագը դեռ չավարտված՝ ՀՀ վարչապետ Նիկոլ Փաշինյանը, ՀՀ նախագահ Վահագն Խաչատուրյանը` բարձրաստիճան այլ պաշտոնյաների հետ լքեցին Մայր Տաճարը, երբ Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոսը դեռ չի ավարտել պատարագը։ Պաշտոնյաները լքել էին Մայր Տաճարն այն պահին, երբ Գարեգին Երկրորդը պատրաստվում էր իջնել բեմից ու հնարավորություն տար ներկա գտնվողներին համբուրել Սուրբ խաչը ու ստանալ հայրապետական օրհնություն։
