Սարկոման չարորակ նորագոյացությունների բավականին մեծ խումբ է, որոնք ձևավորվում են շարակցական հյուսվածքի բջիջներից: Սարկոման կարող է առաջանալ ոսկրային հյուսվածքում (օստեոսարկոմա), աճառային հյուսվածքում (խոնդրոսարկոմա), ճարպային հյուսվածքում(լիպոսարկոմա), մկանային հյուսվածքում(միոսարկոմա), ինչպես նաև արյունատար և ավշային անոթների պատում:
Սարկոմայի որոշ տեսակներ ունեն էպիթելային կամ էկտոդերմալ ծագում, ինչը բնորոշ է քաղցկեղին: Սարկոման բավականին հազվադեպ հանդիպող հիվանդություն է:
Սարկոման վտանգավոր է նրանով, որ սկզբնական փուլերում ընթանում է գրեթե անախտանիշ: Ցավային ախտանիշներն առաջանում են ավելի ուշ շրջաններում, երբ արդյունավետ բուժման հավանականությունը նվազագույն է: Սարկոմաներն առանձնանում են արագ աճով, այդ պատճառով բուժումը հաճախ ուղղված է հիվանդի կյանքը երկարացնելուն և տառապանքը նվազեցնելուն: Սակայն, հարկ է նշել, որ սարկոմայի որոշ տեսակներ (ոսկրային, հարոսկրային) բնորոշվում են շատ դանդաղ աճով, և մի քանի տարիների ընթացքում կարող են չդրսևորվել:
Հաճախ սարկոմաները տարածվում են դեպի թոքեր, հազվադեպ կարող են մետաստազներ տալ տեղաշրջանային ավշային հանգույցներում:
Սարկոմայի տեսակով և տեղակայմամբ պայմանավորված՝ հիվանդին կարող են անհանգստացնել ներքոնշյալ ախտանիշները.
Օստեոսարկոմայի ժամանակ ախտահարման շրջանում առաջանում են ցավեր: Որպես կանոն, ցավերն ուժեղանում են գիշերը և սովորական ցավազրկողներից չեն անցնում: Օստեոսարկոմայի ժամանակ նաև նկատվում է այտուցվածություն, մաշկային ծածկույթների գերարյունություն, թուլություն և ախտաբանական կոտրվածքներ:
Ուղեղի սարկոմայի ժամանակ հիվանդին անհանգստացնում են գլխացավերը և գլխապտույտները, հոգեկան խանգարումները, էպիլեպտիկ ցնցումները, տեսողության խանգարումները և փսխումը:
Թոքերի սարկոման բնութագրվում է կլման դժվարացմամբ, հևոցով, պլևրիտով, դյուրհոգնելիությամբ և անբուժելի թոքաբորբով:
