50 տարվա ընթացքում վայրի կենդանիների թիվն աշխարհում նվազել է 73%-ով և մոտեցել է «անդառնալի կետին»։ Դրա մասին հայտնել է Լոնդոնի կենդանաբանական ընկերությունը (ZSL):

Գիտական ​​ամսագրերից, ՀԿ-ների հրապարակումներից և այլ վստահելի աղբյուրներից օգտագործելով կենդանիների թվաքանակի մասին տեղեկությունը՝ Լոնդոնի կենդանաբանական ընկերությունը վերլուծել է  վայրի բնության՝ 1970 թվականից մինչև 2020 թվականն ընկած ժամանակահատվածի գրեթե 5500 տեսակների պոպուլյացիայի կարգավիճակը:

Ըստ առկա տվյալների՝ վայրի կենդանիներին առնչվող իրավիճակը ամենավատը  Լատինական Ամերիկայի և Կարիբյան ավազանի երկրներում է, որտեղ պոպուլյացիայի անկումը 50 տարվա ընթացքում կազմել է 95%: Աֆրիկայում վայրի կենդանիների պոպուլյացիան կրճատվել է 76%-ով։ Ասիայում և Խաղաղ օվկիանոսում պոպուլյացիայի կրճատումը կազմել է 60%, Հյուսիսային Ամերիկայում՝ 39%, Եվրոպայում՝ 35%։

Գիտնականները համոզմունք են հայտնել, որ առաջիկա տարիներին այս միտումը կարող է սրվել՝ պայմանավորված գլոբալ տաքացման, բազմաթիվ տեսակների բնական միջավայրի ոչնչացման, աղտոտման և մարդու գործունեության հետևանքով առաջացած այլ գործընթացներով։
