ՆԱՏՕ-ն պատրաստ է աչք փակել հայերի էթնիկ զտումների վրա, քանի դեռ Բաքուն հակադրվում է Իրանին: Դրա մասին նշված է The American Conservative հանդեսի հոդվածում։
«Երկու տարի առաջ Ադրբեջանը կատարեց էթիկական զտումների ամենասարսափելի դեպքերից մեկը 1990-ականների Հարավսլավիայի պատերազմներից ի վեր, երբ նրա զինված ուժերը մի քանի օրվա ընթացքում վերահսկողության տակ առան Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հայկական անկլավը՝ ստիպելով 120 հազար քրիստոնյա հայերի լքել երկիրը, որը դարեր շարունակ եղել է նրանց տունը։
Տեղափոխվենք սեպտեմբերի վերջին շաբաթը, երբ Հայաստանում ԱՄՆ դեսպան Քրիստինա Քուինը մասնակցեց Ադրբեջանի պատերազմում զոհված հայերի հիշատակի արարողությանը: Ի նշանավորմն այս իրադարձության՝ ԱՄՆ դեսպանատունը հայտարարություն տարածեց, որում մասնավորապես ասվում էր. «Միացյալ Նահանգները հանձնառու է աշխատել Հայաստանի կառավարության հետ՝ օգնություն ցուցաբերելու նրանց, ովքեր կորցրել են իրենց տներն ու ապրուստի միջոցները»:
Սակայն նման տրամադրությունները դժվար է լուրջ ընդունել, երբ մոտ մեկ շաբաթ անց ՆԱՏՕ-ն բարձրաստիճան պատվիրակություն ուղարկեց Բաքու: Այս հանդիպումներում, ըստ ՆԱՏՕ-ի տարածած հայտարարության, քննարկվել է «Ադրբեջանի հետ համագործակցության նոր շրջանակ՝ հատուկ կենտրոնանալով պաշտպանական կրթության, փոխգործունակության, կայունության և պաշտպանական կարողությունների զարգացման վրա»:
Ադրբեջանը հետևողականորեն խեղաթյուրել է ԼՂ հակամարտության պատմությունը՝ իր շահ նպատակների, և զարմանալի չէ, որ նույն կերպ վարվեց ՆԱՏՕ-ի պատվիրակության այցի ժամանակ։
ՆԱՏՕ-ի և Ադրբեջանի միջև դավադրությունը կասկած չի թողնում ՆԱՏՕ-ի իրական առաջնահերթությունների վերաբերյալ, որոնք երկար ժամանակ թաքնված են ընդհանուր «արժեքների» և «մարդու իրավունքների» մասին բարձր հռետորաբանության հետևում: Բայց բավական հեշտ է հասկանալ Հայաստանի հանդեպ Վաշինգտոնի բարոյական առումով նողկալի քաղաքականությունը. Իսրայելի և Իրանի միջև հակամարտությունը, որում Հայաստանն իր կամքից անկախ հայտնվում է էպիկենտրոնում:
Վաշինգտոնում անտեսվում է Իսրայելի դերը ադրբեջանական էթնիկական զտումների կազմակերպման գործում, թեև դա գաղտնիք չէ Իսրայելում, որտեղ Haaretz-ը խոստովանել է, որ Նեթանյահուի ռեժիմը « Լեռնային Ղարաբաղում Ադրբեջանի ամբողջ էթնիկ զտումների ժամանակ թողել է իր հետքերը»:
Ողբալի է, որ ռազմավարական նշանակությունը, որն Իսրայելը տալիս է Ադրբեջանին՝ որպես ֆորպոստ Իրանի հետ իր գաղտնի պատերազմում, կշարունակի արվել հայերի կյանքի և ինքնիշխանության գնով»,-նշվում է հոդվածում։
