ԱՄՆ նորընտիր նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը շաբաթ օրը ասել է, որ ինքը «շատ արդյունավետ» հանդիպում է ունեցել Կանադայի վարչապետ Ջասթին Թրյուդոյի հետ, որի ընթացքում նրանք քննարկել են սահմանային հարցեր և այլ թեմաներ, այդ թվում՝ առևտուրը, էներգետիկան և Արկտիկան։
«Մենք քննարկել ենք շատ կարևոր թեմաներ, որոնց լուծման համար երկու երկրներին կպահանջվի աշխատել միասին, օրինակ՝ ֆենտանիլի և թմրանյութերի ճգնաժամը, որը շատ կյանքեր է խլել անօրինական ներգաղթի հետևանքով, արդար առևտրի գործարքները, որոնք վտանգի չեն ենթարկում ամերիկացի աշխատողներին, և Կանադայի հետ ԱՄՆ-ի առևտրի հսկայական դեֆիցիտը։ Թրյուդոն հավատարիմ է մեզ հետ աշխատելու՝ վերջ տալու ամերիկյան ընտանիքների այս սարսափելի ավերածություններին»,- գրել է Թրամփը Truth Social-ում:
Թրյուդոն մեկնեց Ֆլորիդա ուրբաթ երեկոյան և ընթրեց Թրամփի հետ նրա Մար-ա-Լագոյի նստավայրում, մի քանի օր անց այն բանից հետո, երբ Թրամփը խոստացավ 25% մաքսատուրքեր սահմանել կանադական և մեքսիկական ապրանքների վրա, երբ նա հունվարին երդվի որպես նախագահ:
