Դեկտեմբերի 5-ին ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարար Սուրեն Պապիկյանը հանդիպել է ԱՄՆ պաշտպանության քարտուղար Լլոյդ Օսթինին:
Այս մասին հայտնում են ՀՀ ՊՆ-ից:
Պենտագոնում տեղի է ունեցել դիմավորման պաշտոնական արարողություն, հնչել են ՀՀ և ԱՄՆ պետական օրհներգերը։
Պաշտպանության նախարար Սուրեն Պապիկյանը, շնորհակալություն հայտնելով ԱՄՆ պաշտպանության քարտուղար Լլոյդ Օսթինին ջերմ հյուրընկալության համար, մանրամասներ է ներկայացրել ՀՀ զինված ուժերում ընթացող բարեփոխումների վերաբերյալ և նշել համագործակցության առաջնային ուղղությունները, որոնք ուղղված են ինչպես ՀՀ զինված ուժերի կերպափոխման իրագործմանը, այնպես էլ ԱՄՆ զինված ուժերի հետ փոխգործակցելիության մակարդակի բարձրացմանը՝ ռազմական կրթություն, մարտական պատրաստություն, միջազգային խաղաղապահ առաքելություններում մասնակցության նախապատրաստման շրջանակում վարժանքներ, արհեստավարժ սերժանտական և հրահանգչական ինստիտուտների զարգացում, ՀՀ զինված ուժերի ուսումնավարժական կարողությունների ստեղծում և այլն:
Ողջունելով ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարար Սուրեն Պապիկյանին՝ ԱՄՆ պաշտպանության քարտուղար Լլոյդ Օսթինը նշել է, որ Հայաստանի պաշտպանական գերատեսչության ղեկավարի այցը պատմական է։
Հանդիպման ընթացքում քննարկվել են պաշտպանության բնագավառում Հայաստան-ԱՄՆ համագործակցությանն առնչվող հարցեր:
Լլոյդ Օսթինը նշել է, որ ԱՄՆ-ն աջակցում է Հայաստանի Հանրապետության անկախությանը, ինքնիշխանությանն ու բարեկեցությանը՝ ընդգծելով, որ երկու երկրների միջև համագործակցությունը շարունակում է ընդլայնվել:
Քարտուղար Օսթինը հայտնել է ԱՄՆ պատրաստակամությունը՝ ՀՀ ԶՈՒ բարեփոխումներին աջակցությունը շարունակելու հարցում։
Քննարկվել են նաև միջազգային ու տարածաշրջանային անվտանգությանն առնչվող հարցեր:
Պաշտպանության նախարար Սուրեն Պապիկյանը հաստատել է տարածաշրջանում երկարատև խաղաղության հասնելու Հայաստանի ձգտումը։ ԱՄՆ պաշտպանության քարտուղար Լլոյդ Օսթինն իր հերթին հայտնել է ԱՄՆ աջակցությունն այդ նպատակին:
