Հայ պատմագիտական միտքը ծանր կորուստ կրեց. 88 տարեկանում կյանքից հեռացավ լավագույն մտավորական, բազմավաստակ ու ականավոր պատմաբան, մանկավարժ, պետական, հասարակական-քաղաքական և ազգային գործիչ, պատմական գիտությունների դոկտոր, պրոֆեսոր, գիտակրթական համակարգի տաղանդավոր կազմակերպիչ, ՀՀ ԳԱԱ ակադեմիկոս, ՀՀ պետական մրցանակի դափնÕ �կիր Հրաչիկ Ռուբենի Սիմոնյանը:

Նա ծնվել է 1928թ. դեկտեմբերի 9-ին Սյունիքի Շինուհայր գյուղում՝ մտավորականի ընտանիքում: 1952թ. ավարտել է Երևանի պետական համալսարանի պատմության ֆակուլտետը: Հայկոմկուսի մարմիններում և գիտական հիմնարկներում վարել է զանազան պաշտոններ: 1971թ. նրան շնորհվել է պրոֆեսորի կոչում, 1996թ. ընտրվել է ՀՀ գիտությունների ազգային ակադեմիայի իսկական անդամ: 1977-90թթ. Հ. Սիմոնյանը եղել է Հայաստանի կոմկուսի կենտկոմի՝ կուսակցության պատմության ինստիտուտի տնօրեն, 1993-94թթ.՝ ՀՀ գիտությունների ազգային ակադեմիայի հասարակական գիտությունների բաժանմունքի ակադեմիկոս-քարտո ւղար, 1991-93թթ.՝ սփյուռքահայության հետ կապերի կոմիտեի նախագահ, 1994-2006թթ.՝ Ակադեմիայի նախագահի խորհրդական, 1999-2003թթ. ղեկավարել է Երևանի պետական համալսարանի հայոց պատմության ամբիոնը, 2008թ.-ից ղեկավարում էր ԵՊՀ հայագիտական հետազոտությունների ինստիտուտի ցեղասպանագիտության բաժինը: Նա եղել է ՀԽՍՀ Գերագույն Խորհրդի և ՀՀ Ազգային Ժողովի պատգամավոր:

Հրաչիկ Սիմոնյանը գործուն մասնակցություն է ցուցաբերել Արցախյան շարժմանը: Նա երեք տասնյակ արժեքավոր մենագրությունների և ավելի քան չորս հարյուր գիտական հոդվածների հեղինակ է: Նա մտավորականի բարձր տիպար էր, պարզ, անկեղծ ու բարյացակամ: Ցավակցում ենք Հրաչիկ Սիմոնյանի Հարազատներին:
