Ռեժիսոր Ֆրենսիս Ֆորդ Կոպոլան կազմակերպել է իր մեծ վերադարձը «Մեգապոլիս» ֆիլմով։ Ֆիլմն ավելի շատ կենտրոնանում է վիզուալ էֆեկտների եւ հետեւողական ոճի, քան խոր եւ համահունչ սյուժեի վրա: Ի դեպ, ամեն ինչի մասին՝ հերթով:

Նկարագրությունը կգտնեք ցանկացած կայքում, ուստի անիմաստ է պատմել ֆիլմի գործողությունը: Բացի այդ, բուն ֆիլմում սյուժեն նույնպես երրորդական նշանակություն ունի։ Դերասանական կազմը նպատակ ունի հետագայում ուշադրություն գրավել ֆիլմի հանդեպ։ Ադամ Դրայվերի տաղանդը, անշուշտ, ակնհայտ է, ինչպես մյուս դերասաններինը, բայց արդյո՞ք դա իմաստ ունի, եթե այս ֆիլմում խաղալու բան չկա:

Կինոժապավենի շուրջ աղմուկ ստեղծելն ավելի կարեւոր է դարձել, քան ինքը՝ ժապավենը: Եվ այստեղ զգացվում է ռեժիսրի տարօրինակ անխոհեմությունը։ Հատկապես հաշվի առնելով այն, որ ինքը՝ Կոպոլան, նշել է, որ ֆիլմի գաղափարը փայփայում էր դեռ 80-ականներից։ Նման բան ստեղծելու համար պահանջվել է 45 տարի։ Ակնհայտ է, որ կասկածներ կային, քանի որ ռեժիսորին այդքան տարիներ են պետք եղել այդ մասին խորհելու համար, բայց հիմարությունը գերիշխել է։

Կինոնկարը մեծության է հավակնում, բայց վառ տեսարանի հետեւում սյուժեի դատարկությունն է։ Ի դեպ, այն ոչ թե թաքնվում է, այլ վստահորեն կանգնած է առաջին պլանում՝ գունագեղ կադրերի հետ միասին, որոնք երբեմն-երբեմն իմաստային բեռ են ստանում:

Կոպոլայի գաղափարը ցերեկվա պես պարզ է։ Նա ցանկանում է պատմել հռոմեական պատմության մի մասը ժամանակակից համատեքստի միջոցով՝ կարծես զուգահեռ անցկացնելով եւ գտնելով պատմական սիմվոլիզմ արդիականությունում։ Բայց արդյո՞ք այս գաղափարն իսկապես այդքան նոր է: Իհարկե ոչ։ Հետեւաբար, մենք պետք է նորամուծություն գտնենք էլի մի ինչ-որ բանում։ Եթե ոչ բովանդակությունը, ապա ի՞նչը: Ճիշտ է՝ ձեւը: Սա է ֆիլմն ստեղծելու ողջ ռազմավարությունը:

«Մեգալոպոլիսը» վիզուալ էֆեկտներով ծանրաբեռնված ֆիլմ է, որի հետեւում հնարավոր չի եղել թաքցնել թերի մշակված սյուժեն։

Ֆիլմն ակնհայտորեն ուղղված է վիզուալ առումով դիտողին ցնցելու համար, բայց այս ռազմավարությունն իրեն չի արդարացնում, քանի որ առանձին գեղեցիկ կադրերն ինքնին տպավորիչ են, պատմական հղումները սիմվոլիզմ են ավելացնում, բայց առանց մտածված սյուժեի, լավ երկխոսությունների եւ դրամայի այս ամենը կարծես վառ նկարների ընտրանի լինի, որոնք անպիտանության պատճառով ասես աղբանոց են նետվել:

Հեշտ է պատկերացնել, որ Կոպոլան տղեկի նման առաջին անգամ է տեսել հեքիաթային սյուժեով գիրք։ Նա տպավորված է վառ պատկերներով եւ պատմությամբ։ Նրա փոքրիկ գլխում կա այն ամենի վերիմաստավորումը, ինչ նա տեսել եւ կարդացել է: Երիտասարդ տարիքի պատճառով նրա մտքերն ու գաղափարները փայլուն եւ օրիգինալ են թվում, եւ այդ պատճառով նա որոշում է դրանք պատմել հասուն մարդուն։ Նրա վերապատմումը հնչում է որպես անիմաստ ու ընդհատ պատմություն՝ կուտակելով վառ պատկերներ, որոնք տպավորել են տղային՝ ի վերջո վերածվելով անունների եւ սյուժեների զվարճալի ցուցակի: Միակ տարբերությունն այն է, որ խանդավառ տղան քնքուշ է թվում, իսկ նույն իրավիճակում հայտնված տարեց ռեժիսորը՝ շատ անհեթեթ։ Ի դեպ, ինչ էլ որ երեխան որոշի, անգամ մեծ տարիքում:
