Երկրի և կենսաբանական գիտնականների միջազգային թիմն ապացույցներ է գտել, որ Լոս Չոկոյոս սուպերժայթքումը տեղի է ունեցել մոտավորապես 79,500 տարի առաջ, և որ մոլորակը դրա սառեցնող ազդեցություններից վերականգնվել է տասնամյակների ընթացքում:
Communications Earth & Environment ամսագրում հրապարակված հոդվածում գիտնականները նկարագրում են, թե ինչպես են ուսումնասիրել Գրենլանդիայում և Անտարկտիդայում վերցված սառցե միջուկի նմուշները՝ ավելին իմանալու հնագույն հրաբխի ժայթքման գլոբալ ազդեցության մասին:
Նախկինում հաղորդվել էր, որ տասնյակ հազարավոր տարիներ առաջ Գվատեմալայի ժամանակակից Ատիտլան հրաբխային համակարգի տարածքում հզոր ժայթքում է տեղի ունեցել, որը մոխիր է նետել շատ հեռու մթնոլորտ: Ենթադրվում էր, որ այնքան մոխիր է արտանետվել, որ հանգեցրել է սառցե դարաշրջանի:
Այսօր այս ժայթքումը հայտնի է որպես Լոս Չոկոյոսի սուպերժայթքում: Հետազոտական թիմը ցանկանում էր ավելին իմանալ ժայթքման գլոբալ ազդեցության մասին, ուստի նրանք մեկնեցին Գրենլանդիա և Անտարկտիկա՝ սառցե միջուկներ ստանալու համար, որոնք, նրանք գիտեին, որ կբացահայտեին մթնոլորտային պայմանները ժայթքման ժամանակ և հաջորդ տարիներին:
Սառցե միջուկներում նյութի շերտերն ուսումնասիրելով՝ գիտնականները կարողացան հաշվարկել, որ ժայթքումը տեղի է ունեցել մոտ 79500 տարի առաջ, երբ հրաբխի մոխիրը կհասներ այն տարածքները, որտեղից գալիս են սառցե միջուկները:
Նրանք նաև նշել են, որ ժայթքումը աղետալի է եղել՝ արտանետվող մոխրի քանակությունը գլոբալ փոփոխություններ է առաջացրել, ինչպիսիք են սառեցումը և արևի լույսի կորուստը: Բայց նրանք նաև պարզեցին, որ մոխիրը մաքրվեց՝ թույլ տալով մոլորակին վերադառնալ իր նախկին վիճակին ընդամենը մի քանի տասնամյակի ընթացքում, ինչը բավարար չէր սառցե դարաշրջան առաջացնելու համար:
Հետազոտողները ասում են, որ իրենց աշխատանքը հիմնովին փոխում է մեր պատկերացումն այն մասին, թե ինչ է տեղի ունեցել Լոս Չոկոյոսի սուպերժայթքման ժամանակ և դրանից հետո, և մարտահրավեր է նետում այն տեսություններին, որոնք ենթադրում են, որ ապագա սուպերժայթքումները կարող են հանգեցնել նոր սառցե դարաշրջանի, որը, հնարավոր է, վերացնի մարդկային ցեղը: Գիտնականների թիմը նախատեսում է շարունակել իրենց հետազոտությունները՝ ուսումնասիրելու այլ գերխափանիչների ազդեցությունը հեռավոր անցյալում, որպեսզի օգնի ավելի լավ կանխատեսել ապագա իրադարձությունների ազդեցությունը:
