Սիրիայի ծովափնյա շրջաններում կառավարական ուժերի և նախկին նախագահի զինված կողմնակիցների միջև տեղի ունեցող բախումները հետևանքով կան բազմաթիվ զոհեր։ Լրատվամիջոցները հայտնում են միայն խաղաղ բնակչության շրջանում 700-ից ավելի զոհի մասին։ Հայտնել էինք, որ նրանց մեջ նաև հայեր կան։

«Արևելք»-ի տեղեկություններով, Լաթաքիայում զոհված հայերը ոչ թե պատահական կրակոցների զոհ էին, ինչպես նախապես հայտարարվել էր, այլ նրանց սպանել են։

«Արևելք»-ը Լաթաքիայի իր աղբյուրից տեղեկացել է, որ հայր և որդի Պուտրոսներին Լաթաքիա վերադառնալուց կանգնեցրել և կրակելով սպանել են։ Թե բախումներին մասնակից ո՛ր կողմն է սպանել՝ առայժմ հայտնի չէ։

Նշվում է, որ Պուտրոսներն այն քչաթիվ հայերից են, որ ծնվել են Ասադների ծննդավայր Կարդահայում, և այսօր պատմական այդ գյուղի միակ հայ ընտանիքն են։

Հայր և որդի Անտուան և Ֆադի Պուտրոսները, «Արևելք»-ի տեղեկություններով, պատկանում են Մերձավոր Արևելքում գոյություն ունեցող մի ինքնատիպ հայկական համայնքի, որը հայտնի է «հին հայեր» անվամբ։

Այս համայնքի ներկայացուցիչները, հիմնականում արաբախոս լինելով, հայ առաքելական եկեղեցու հետևորդ են, ձգտում են պահել հայկականությունն ու ինքնությունը, որը դարերի ընթացքում նահանջել է։
