Հռոմի պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսը լուրջ սրացում է ունեցել հիվանդանոցում եղած ժամանակ, և ինչ-որ պահի բժիշկները վախեցել են նրա կյանքի համար: «Corriere della Sera»-ին տված հարցազրույցում պատմել է Հռոմի «Ջեմելի» հիվանդանոցի վիրաբուժական բաժանմունքի ղեկավար Սերջո Ալֆիերին։
Նա Հռոմի պապին բուժող բժիշկներից մեկն է եղել:
Ըստ նրա՝ ամենածանր պահը եղել է փետրվարի 28-ին՝ հիվանդանոց ընդունվելուց երկու շաբաթ անց, երբ բրոնխիալ սպազմ է սկսվել՝ փսխման նոպայով և ասպիրացիայով, ինչը շնչառական համակարգի կտրուկ վատթարացում է առաջացրել: Բժիշկները ստիպված են եղել դիմել բրոնխների մաքրման ու թոքերի ոչ ինվազիվ օդափոխության։
«Մենք բոլորս հասկանում էինք, որ իրավիճակը լրջորեն վատացել է, և վտանգ կա, որ մենք չենք հաղթահարի․․․ Այդ գիշերը սարսափելի էր։ Նա, ինչպես և մենք, գիտակցում էր, որ կարող է ողջ չմնալ»,- ասել է Ալֆիերին:
Նրա խոսքով՝ Հռոմի պապը գիտակից է եղել ամբողջ ճգնաժամի ընթացքում և մասնակցել է որոշումների կայացմանը։
