Սուրբ Պետրոս հրապարակում Հիվանդների ու առողջապահական գործիչների հոբելյանական սուրբ պատարագի ավարտին, որը մատուցել է Գերապ. Ռինո Ֆիզիքելլան՝ կարդալով այս առիթով Սրբազան Պապի պատրաստած քարոզը, Նորին Սրբությունը անակնկալ կերպով ներկայացել է հրապարակ՝ նախքան վերջին օրհնությունը։ «Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ՝ Vaticannews-ը տեղեկացնում է, որ Հռոմի պապը Սուրբ Պետրոս հրապարակում զետեղված ամբիոնից պատարագիչ Գերապայծառի հետ միասին բոլոր ներկաներին շնորհել է իր առաքելական օրհնությունը, ապա տկար, բայց հստակ ձայնով բոլորին մաղթել բարի կիրակի։
«Բարի կիրակի բոլորիդ և շնորհակալություն», - ասել է Սրբազան Պապը, և, հասկանալով, որ իր առաջին ողջույնի խոսքը լսելի չէ եղած բոլորին, մեկ անգամ ևս կրկնեց իր ողջույնը, մինչ Սուրբ Պետրոս հրապարակում գտնվող հազարավոր հավատացյալները հուզումնալից ծափահարությամբ ընկալել են Քահանայապետին ու նրա ողջույնի խոսքերը։
Այս առաջին անգամն էր, որ Նորին Սրբությունը փետրվարի 14-ից հետո հայտնվել է Սուրբ Պետրոս հրապարակում և խոսք ուղղել հավատացյալներին։
Հունվարին Ֆրանցիսկոս պապը հիվանդացել էր բրոնխիտով. փետրվարի 14-ին նրան տեղափոխել են Հռոմի «Gemelli» կլինիկա, քանի որ հիվանդությունը քրոնիկ էր դարձել։ Ռենտգենից և լաբորատոր հետազոտություններից հետո քահանայապետի մոտ հայտնաբերվել էր նաև երկկողմանի թոքաբորբ։
