«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Որոշ խմիչքների պատմությունը պարզ է ու հասարակ. լինում է, չի լինում մի արհեստավոր, նա հորինում է բաղադրատոմս և սկսում արտադրել իր ստեղծածը... Բայց որոշ խմիչքների պատմություններն էլ բարդ են և դրամատիկ, հաճախ անհնար է նույնիսկ որոշակիորեն ասել, թե ո՞վ է հորինել բաղադրատոմսը, և պարզել այդ ըմպելիքի անսպասելի շրջադարձերով ուղին մինչև մեր օրերը: Այդ «դժվար ճակատագիր ունեցող» խմիչքներից մեկն էլ Դրամբուլե լիկյորն է:

Այդ լիկյորի անվանումը գալիս է an dram buidheach արտահայտությունից, որը կելտերեն նշանակում է «խմիչք, որը հաճույք է պատճառում»: Լիկյորի բաղադրատոմսը հորինել է մի անանուն բժիշկ՝ հատուկ Ստյուարտների դինաստիայի ժառանգ Չարլզ Էդվարդ Ստյուարտի համար 18-րդ դարի առաջին կեսին: Էդվարդը նաև հայտնի էր որպես արքայազն Չարլի Գեղեցիկ, նա 25 տարեկանում ղեկավարել է ապստամբությունը Շոտլանդիայում՝ ընդդեմ անգլիական տիրապետության, և դարձել շոտլանդական բանահյուսության հայտնի հերոս: Ապստամբությունը անգամ մեկ տարի չի տևել, և 1746 թվականին Չարլին պարտվել ու ստիպված փախել է։ Նա ժամանակավոր ապաստան է գտել Սքայ կղզում (Շոտլանդիայի արևմուտք)՝ հանրահայտ Մակքինան կլանի տանը։ Դրանից մի քանի ամիս անց արքայազն Չարլին Ֆրանսիա է տեղափոխվել։ Ի երախտագիտություն օգնության, արքայազն Չարլին Մակքինաններին է տվել Drambuie լիկյորի բաղադրատոմսը։ Իհարկե, արքայազնին ցուցաբերած օգնության համար այդ կլանը ենթարկվել է լուրջ հալածանքների և կորցրել իր հողատարածքները, բայց պահպանել է լիկյորի բաղադրատոմսը։ Մի քանի տասնամյակ Դրամբուլե լիկյորը բացառապես ընտանեկան խմիչք էր և հայտնի էր միայն Սքայ կղզում:

1870-ականներին տեղի հյուրանոցի սեփականատեր ոմն Ջոն Ռոսն է հետաքրքրվել խմիչքով։ Նա կլանից ստացել է լիկյոր պատրաստելու և վաճառելու իրավունք։ Իսկ 1893 թվականին նրա որդին՝ Ջեյմսը, արտոնագիր է ստացել այդ լիկյորի համար։ Նրա մահից հետո նրա այրին արտոնագիրը վաճառել է ալկոհոլային խմիչքներ վաճառող և Սքայի բնակիչ Մալ քոլմ Մակքինանին: Հստակ հայտնի չէ, թե արդյո՞ք այդ Մակքինանին վերոնշյալ Մակքինանների ազգականն է, թե ոչ, չնայած տոհմանունները նմանություններ ունեն։ Կարևորն այն է, որ արդեն 1909 թվականին շուկա է մտել Drambuie լիկյորը։ 1916 թվականին այն արժանացել է Լորդերի պալատին մատակարարվելու բարձր պատվին, ընդ որում՝ առաջինը բոլոր լիկյորների մեջ։

Այսօր այդ լիկյորի իրավունքները դեռ պատկանում են Մակքինան ընտանիքին: Խորհրդանշական շիշը անփոփոխ է մնացել հարյուր տարի և կրում է նրանց գերբը: Լիկյորը պատրաստվում է առնվազն 15 տարեկան վիսկուց, որի մեջ թրմում են խոտաբույսեր և ավելացնում մեղր։ Լիկյորի թնդությունը 40 % է, և այն հարմար է խմել ինչպես մաքուր վիճակում, այնպես էլ թեյի, սուրճի կամ կոկտեյլների հետ։
