Կաթոլիկ եկեղեցու նոր ղեկավարի ընտրության կոնկլավից առաջ Հռոմ են ժամանել ձայնի իրավունք ունեցող բոլոր 133 կարդինալները։ Այս մասին Վատիկանում տեղի ունեցած տասներորդ ժողովի ավարտից հետո պաշտոնապես հայտարարել է Սուրբ Աթոռի մամուլի ծառայությունը։
Մամուլի ծառայության հայտարարության մեջ նշվում է. «Բոլոր 133 կարդինալ ընտրողներն այժմ Հռոմում են»:
Միաբանության աշխատանքներին մասնակցում են Կարդինալների կոլեգիայի 179 անդամներ։ Չորեքշաբթի օրը բացվող կոնկլավին, սակայն, իրավունք ունեն մասնակցելու միայն այն հիերարխները, ովքեր դեռ 80 տարին չեն լրացել։
Ապրիլի 28-ին Սուրբ Աթոռի մամուլի ծառայության ղեկավար Մատեո Բրունին հայտարարեց, որ կարդինալների կոնկլավը կհանդիպի մայիսի 7-ին Հռոմի նոր Պապ ընտրելու համար: Մասնակցելու իրավունք ունեն մինչև 80 տարեկան շուրջ 135 կարդինալներ ամբողջ աշխարհից:
