Հայ ժողովուրդը մայիսի 9-ին տոնում է եռատոնը՝ Հայրենական մեծ պատերազմում հաղթանակը, Շուշիի ազատագրման և Արցախի պաշտպանության բանակի ստեղծման տարեդարձը:

79 տարի առաջ Հայրենական պատերազմի տարբեր ռազմաճակատներում կռվել ու հաղթանակում իրենց ավանդն են ունեցել 600 հազար հայորդիներ: Հայ ազգը տվել է 4 մարշալ՝ Բաղրամյան, Բաբաջանյան, Խուդյակով (Խամփերյանց), Աղանով և ԽՍՀՄ-ի մեկ ծովակալ՝ Իսակով։ 70 հազար հայ մարտիկներ պարգևատրվել են մարտական շքանշաններով ու մեդալներով, 27 շարքային զինվոր դարձել է Փառքի շքանշանակիր, 104 մարդ արժանացել է խորհրդային միության հերոսի կոչման: Նելսոն Ստեփանյանն արժանացել է Խորհրդային Միության կրկնակի հերոսի կոչման:

Ուղիղ 32 տարի առաջ էլ մայիսի 9-ի առավոտյան հայկական ջոկատները հաջողությամբ ավարտեցին «Հարսանիք լեռներում» օպերացիան, որի արդյունքում ազատագրվեց Շուշին: Արտասովոր այս անվանումը գալիս է նրանից, որ այդ ժամանակ պաշտպանության նախարար Վազգեն Սարգսյանը անիրագործելի էր համարում Կոմանդոսի և Սամվել Բաբայանի ներկայացրած Շուշիի ազատագրման մարտական պլանը: Նա կարծում էր, որ նման օպերացիա իրականացնելը դեռ վաղ է ու պետք է դրան լավ պատրաստվել: Նրանք որոշել էին` Շուշին գրավելուց հետո լեռներում Վազգեն Սարգսյանի հարսանիքը կազմակերպել. այդպես էլ օպերացիան ստացել է «Հարսանիք լեռներում» պայմանական անվանումը:
