 Հայոց ցեղասպանության հարցի հետ կապված 2015 թվականին այն, ինչ արեց Հռոմի պապը, անբեկանելի է: Այս մասին «Արմենպրես»-ի մամուլի սրահում հրավիրված ասուլիսին նշեց ՀՀ ԳԱԱ Արևելագիտության ինստիտուտի տնօրեն, թուրքագետ Ռուբեն Սաֆրաստյանը` անդրադառնալով Թուրքիայի տարածած այն հայտարարությանը, թե Վատիկանը փոխել է իր դիրքորոշումը Հայոց ցեղասպանության հարցի հետ կապված:

«Ես սա դիտարկում եմ որպես Թուրքիայի դիվանագիտական խորամանկ քայլ: Դեռևս պետք է սպասել, տեսնել, թե ինչ ընթացք կստանա այս գործընթացը: Կարծում եմ, որ այս խնդրին պետք է շատ զգույշ մոտենալ, քանի որ հիշում ենք, թե անցած տարի ինչ մեծ քայլ կատարվեց Հռոմի պապի կողմից: Դեռևս պետք է սպասել, նոր հստակ պատկերացում կազմել: Այն քայլը, որ անցյալ տարի կատարվեց Հռոմի պապի կողմից, անբեկանելի է»,-ասաց Ռուբեն Սաֆրաստյանը: Հարցին, թե արդյոք Վատիկանը պե՞տք է արձագանքի, Ռուբեն Սաֆրաստյանը նշեց, որ դա Վատիկանի որոշելիքն է:

Թուրքագետը նշեց, որ Վատիկանի արխիվները փաստում են, որ 1915 թվականը եղել է ցեղասպանություն:

«Վատիկանի արխիվները ուսումնասիրվում են պատմաբանների կողմից: Կարևոր փաստաթղթեր հրապարակվել են, առավել կարևորները պատրաստվում են հրապարակվել: Գերմանացի հետազոտողներից մեկի կողմից ուսումնասիրվեցին կարևոր փաստաթղթեր ու ներկայացվեցին: Այդտեղ հստակ ցույց է տրվում, որ Օսմանյան Թուրքիայի  կառավարութան  նախապատրաստած ծրագրի հիման վրա իրականացվել են զանգվածային սպանություններ: Չեմ կարծում, որ ինչ-որ թուրք պատմաբան այնտեղ կկարողանա ինչ-որ բան գտնել` թուրքական կեղծիքները հաստատելու համար»,-ասաց Ռուբեն Սաֆրաստյանը:

Փետրվարի 4-ին թուրքական իշխանությունը տեղեկատվություն էր տարածել այն մասին, թե Վատիկանը ետքայլ է կատարել ՀռոմիՖրանցիսկոս պապի ապրիլյան ուղերձից ամբողջությամբ: Այս մասին թվիթերյան իր էջում գրառում էր կատարել ՀՀ արտաքինգործերի նախարարի մամուլի խոսնակ Տիգրան Բալայանը: Փետրվարի 3-ի երեկոյան Թուրքիայի արտաքին գործերինախարարությունը որոշում է կայացրել հետ ուղարկել Վատիկանի իր դեսպան Մեհմեթ Փաչաջըին, ով կանչվել էր Անկարա ՍուրբՊետրոս տաճարում Հայոց ցեղասպանության տարելիցին անցկացված պատարագից հետո: Վատիկանի Սուրբ Պետրոսի տաճարում2015 թվականի ապրիլի 12-ին Հռոմ « Ֆրանցիսկոս պապը մատուցեց Հայոց ցեղասպանության 100-րդ տարելիցին նվիրվածպատարագ, որի ընթացքում Հայոց մեծ եղեռնը 20-րդ դարի առաջին ցեղասպանություն անվանեց:
