COVID-19-ի նոր տարբերակը՝ NB.1.8.1-ը, որը նաև կոչվում է Nimbus, հայտնաբերվել է մի շարք ասիական երկրներում, այդ թվում՝ Հնդկաստանում, Հոնկոնգում, Սինգապուրում և Թաիլանդում: Այս մասին հայտնում են Հիվանդությունների վերահսկման և կանխարգելման ազգային կենտրոնից:
Այն Omicron ենթատարբերակի JN.1-ի ճյուղն է, Առողջապահության համաշխարհային կազմակերպության կողմից դիտարկվում է որպես Մոնիթորինգի տակ գտնվող տարբերակ:
Այն մինչ օրս տարածվել է 22 երկրում: ԱՄՆ-ում այն հայտնաբերվել է Նյու Յորքում, Կալիֆոռնիայում, Արիզոնայում, Օհայոյում և Ռոդ Այլենդում:
