Վերջին շրջանում Հայաստանում մեծ նշանակություն ու առողջարարություն է տրվում հատկապես էկզոտիկ կամ այսպես կոչված տրոպիկական մրգերին և մենք մոռանում ենք նրանց մասին, որոնք աճում են հենց մեզ մոտ ու մեր հարևանությամբ: Հայաստանում աճող ու ամեն օր սուպերմարկետներում ու շուկաներում հանդիպող մրգերից մեկը խնձորն է, որը իր հասանելիության պատճառով հաճախ չի մտնում <<ամենառողջարար>> մրգերի ցանկում և չի դիտարկվում որպես բնական դեղամիջոց մի շարք հիվանդությունների համար:
Խնձորի մասին միշտ ասում են մեջը երկաթ կա: Իսկ ավելի վաղ Հայաստանում հայտնի էր, որ խնձորը պտղաբերության, գեղեցկության և առողջության խորհրդանիշ է: Սակայն չընկղմվեք պատմության ու ավանդույթների մեջ:

Խնձորը պարունակում է..

Խնձորը բաղկացած է ջրից, գրեթե չի պարունակում ճարպեր, ածխաջրեր և սպիտակուց: Փոխարենը այն ունի մեծ քանակությամբ վիտամին C, բաղադրության մեջ կան ցինկ, կալիում, նատրիում, մի շարք այլ միկրո և մակրոտարրեր:
Ինֆարկտի և ինսուլտի հավանականության նվազում:
Հայտնի է, որ ինֆարկտի ու ինսուլտի պատճառը հաճախ դառնում է օրգանիզմում խոլեստերինի բարձր մակարդակը: Իսկ ահա քչերին է հայտնի, որ խնձորի միջոցով հնարավոր է խոլեստերինի մակարդակը իջեցնել 23 տոկոսով: Դեղորայքով բուժելու դեպքում խոլեստերինը նվազում 18 տոկոս գումարած սրան ունենում է մի շարք կողմնակի ազդեցություններ:

Քաղցկեղային հիվանդությունների նվազում:

Ուսումնասիրությունները ցույց են տվել, որ որոշակի կապ կա խնձորի և քաղցկեղի զարգացման միջև: Մասնավորապես խնձորը նպաստում է քաղցկեղային բջիջների աճի նվազմանը, հատկապես թոքերի քաղցկեղի դեպքում: Ուսումնասիրությունը փաստում է, որ խնձորը 40-50 տոկոսով պակասեցնում է քաղցկեղի հավանականությունը: Սա բացատրվում է նրանով, որ խնձորը ունի հզոր հակաօքսիդանտի դեր, որը թույլ չի տալիս քաղցկեղածին բջիջներին զարգանալ ու ավելանալ:

Հիշողության բարելավում:

Մեկ այլ հետազոտության համաձայն խնձորը ուղեղում ավելացնում է նեյրոտասմիտեր ացետիլհոլինը, ինչը պատասխանատու է ուղեղում, նոր կառուցվածքների ավելացման ու այսպես կոչված <<տարածքի ընդլայնման>> համար: Խնձորը ուղեղի համար բազմաֆունկցիոնալ հորմոն է, որը պատասխանատու է ուղեղում փոփոխությունների և արդյունքում նաև հիշողության բարելավման համար:

Կյանքի տևողության ավելացում:

Գիտնականները փորձեր են կատարել մկների վրա պարզելու համար, թե իչ ազդեցություն է ունենում խնձորի գործածումը րանց կենսագործունեության ու կյանքի տևողության վրա: Պարզվել է, որ այն մկները, որոնց գիտնականները կերակրել են խնձորով 10 տոկոսով ավելի երկար են ապրում, քան նրանք, որոնք խնձոր չեն կերել: Ավելին խնձորով սնվող մկները դարձել են ավելի շարժունակ ակտիվ և կենսունակ դիմակայելու օրգանիզմում առաջացող խնդիրների նկատմամբ:
