ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը Fox News-ին ասել է, որ մտադիր չէ երկարաձգել մաքսատուրքերի դադարի հուլիսի 9-ի վերջնաժամկետը, որը նա սահմանել էր ԱՄՆ-ի հետ գործարքներ կնքող երկրների համար։
«Չեմ կարծում, թե ես դրա կարիքը կունենամ։ Կարող էի, սարսափելի բան չկա», - ասել է նա։
Ուրբաթ օրը Սպիտակ տանը տեղի ունեցած մամուլի ասուլիսի ժամանակ Թրամփը հայտարարել էր, որ հուլիսի 9-ը վերջնաժամկետ չի սահմանված «փոխադարձ» մաքսատուրքերը բարձրացնելու համար։
«Մենք կարող ենք անել ամեն բան, ինչ ուզում ենք։ Կարող ենք այն երկարացնել, կարող ենք կարճեցնել», - ասել է նա՝ հավելելով, որ ինքը կնախընտրեր այն կարճեցնել։
Ուրբաթ օրը Թրամփը նաև հայտարարել էր, որ դադարեցնում է առևտրային բանակցությունները Կանադայի հետ և սպառնացել հաջորդ շաբաթվա ընթացքում նոր մաքսատուրք սահմանել երկրի ապրանքների վրա։ Թրամփը նշել էր, որ այս քայլը Կանադայի կողմից տեխնոլոգիական ընկերությունների թվային ծառայությունների վրա հարկ սահմանելու քայլի պատասխանն է՝ այն որակելով որպես «մեր երկրի վրա ուղղակի և բացահայտ հարձակում»։
