Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմի բրիտանացի ամենատարեց վետերան Դոնալդ Ռոուզը մահացել է 110 տարեկան հասակում, հայտնում է Associated Press-ը։ 

Ռոուզը մասնակցել է 1944 թվականի հունիսի 6-ի դեսանտի իջեցմանը և եղել է այն ստորաբաժանման կազմում, որն ազատագրել է Գերմանիայի հյուսիսում գտնվող Բերգեն-Բելզենի համակենտրոնացման ճամբարը։ 

Ուրբաթ օրը հրապարակված հայտարարության մեջ Անգլիայի հյուսիսում գտնվող Էրևաշի քաղաքային խորհրդի ղեկավար Ջեյմս Դոուսոնը հայտնել է Ռոուզի մահվան մասին՝ նրան անվանելով պատերազմի հերոս։ 

Մայիսին Ռոուզը 45 այլ վետերանների հետ որպես պատվավոր հյուր մասնակցել է Թագավորական բրիտանական լեգեոնի կողմից Ազգային հուշահամալիր-դենդրարիում կազմակերպված թեյախմությանը՝ նվիրված Եվրոպայում հաղթանակի 80-ամյակին։ 

Ռոուզը, որը ծնվել է 1914 թվականի Սուրբ Ծննդյան նախօրեին՝ Առաջին համաշխարհային պատերազմի ռազմական գործողությունների մեկնարկից հետո, միջոցառման ժամանակ ասել է, որ այն ժամանակ նա չի նշել Հաղթանակի օրը։ 

«Երբ ես լսեցի, որ 80 տարի առաջ զինադադար է ստորագրվել, ես Գերմանիայում էի՝ Բելզենում, և, ինչպես գործող զինվորականների մեծ մասը, այն ժամանակ դա նշելու հնարավորություն չունեի», - պատմել է նա։ «Մենք պարզապես անում էինք այն, ինչ ճիշտ էինք համարում, և թեթևացում զգացինք, երբ ամեն ինչ ավարտվեց»։ 

Ըստ Թագավորական բրիտանական լեգեոնի, Ռոուզը, որը ծնունդով Լոնդոնից հարավ-արևմուտք գտնվող Վեսթքոթ գյուղից էր, 23 տարեկանում զորակոչվել է բանակ և ծառայել Հյուսիսային Աֆրիկայում, Իտալիայում և Ֆրանսիայում։ 

Նա ստացել է բազմաթիվ մեդալներ և պարգևատրվել Ֆրանսիայի բարձրագույն պարգևով՝ Պատվո լեգեոնի շքանշանով։ Ենթադրվում է, որ Ռոուզը նաև Մեծ Բրիտանիայի ամենատարեց տղամարդն էր։
