Տիեզերական հրթիռը օդում մնացել է մեկ րոպեից էլ պակաս, նախքան կործանվելուց առաջ ծխի հսկայական ամպի արձակելը, բայց այնուամենայնիվ, դա պատմական իրադարձություն էր՝ Ավստրալիայում նախագծված և կառուցված ուղեծրային հրթիռի արձակման փորձը, գրում է The Guardian-ը։

Eris հրթիռը Գոլդ Կոստեում  կառուցել է Gilmour Space ընկերությունը և չորեքշաբթի առավոտյան կարճ ժամանակով թռիչք է կատարել հյուսիսային Քվինսլենդի Բոուեն տիեզերակայանից՝ մի քանի ամիս հարմար պայմանների սպասելուց հետո։

Ու թեև ծխի ամպը կարող էր նշանավորել Eris-ի առաքելության ավարտը, Gilmour-ը և Ավստրալիայի նորաստեղծ տիեզերական արդյունաբերությունը հույս ունեն, որ ուղեծիր հասնելու այս անհաջող փորձը միայն սկիզբը կլինի։

Կարճ ժամանակ անց Gilmour Space-ը հայտարարություն տարածեց, որում ասվում էր, որ հրթիռի 14 վայրկյան տևողությամբ թռիչքը Ավստրալիային մեկ քայլով մոտեցրել է այն վեց երկրների ակումբին, որոնք պարբերաբար տիեզերանավեր են արձակում ուղեծիր։

«Առաջին փորձնական թռիչքի համար, մասնավորապես՝ վերջնական հաստատման 18-ամսյա երկարատև սպասումից հետո, սա նշանակալի արդյունք է և կարևոր քայլ առաջ Ավստրալիայի ինքնիշխան տիեզերական կարողությունների համար։ Ամենակարևորն այն է, որ թիմն անվտանգ է և եռանդյով լի՝ երկրորդ փորձնական թռիչքի համար», - ասված է ընկերության հայտարարության մեջ։

23 մետր երկարությամբ և 30 տոննա քաշով հրթիռը պատված էր սենսորներով, որոնց միջոցով Քվինսլենդի ընկերությունը հույս ունի տեղեկատվություն ստանալ ապագա արձակման փորձերին օգնելու համար։ Ավստրալիայի One Giant Leap հիմնադրամը, որը մշակում է տիեզերական արդյունաբերության ապագա աշխատուժի պատրաստմանն ուղղված կրթական ծրագրեր, նրանց թվում էր, ովքեր շնորհավորեցին Gilmour Space-ին՝ «անբասիր աշխատանքի» համար։

Gilmour Space-ի արձակումը ուղեծիր պետք է մեկնարկեր երեքշաբթի, սակայն ուժեղ քամիները հետաձգեցին մեկնարկը։ Մեկնարկը նախատեսված էր նաև մայիսին, բայց տեղի չունեցավ։ Անցյալ շաբաթ ընկերությունը Ավստրալիայի կառավարությունից ստացավ 5 միլիոն դոլար՝ իր Eris կրող հրթիռի՝ հաջորդ սերնդի հեղուկային հրթիռային շարժիչ մշակելու համար։
