* Կանոսսան պատմականորեն առանձնահատուկ նշանակություն ունի, քանի որ այն նշվում է որպես վայր, որտեղ տեղի ունեցավ հայտնի “Կանոսսայի հանդիպումը” 1077 թվականին։
Այս հանդիպումը տեղի ունեցավ Հռոմի պապ Գրիգորի VII-ի և Հռենոսի կայսր Հենրիխ IV-ի միջև, որն ամենաընդունված իրադարձություններից մեկն է միջին դարերի պատմության մեջ։
Հենրիխ IV-ը ապաշխարել է, հագել է քուրձ և ոտաբոբիկ հասել է Կանոսսայի դարպասներին, որտեղ գտնվում էր պապը:
Սակայն Գրիգորի VII պապը հրաժարվել է ընդունել Հենրիխին։ Ըստ տեղեկությունների Հենրիխը երեք օր սպասել է ամրոցի դարպասների մոտ, այդ ընթացքում ծոմ պահելով և քուրձը չհանելով:
Ի վերջո, պապը նրան ընդունում է: Հենրիխը ծնկի է իջնում Գրիգորի պապի առջև և խնդրում է նրա ներողամտությունը: Գրիգորին ներում է կայսրին և կոչ է անում նրան վերադառնալ Եկեղեցու գիրկը»,– ասվում է նամակում։
