Փաստաբանները հրապարակել են Վարդան Հարությունյանի հայտարարությունը, որը պատրաստվել էր կալանքի որոշման հրապարակումից անմիջապես հետո:

«Սիրելի հայրենակիցներ, սիրելի ընկերներ,  այսօր ինձ կալանավորեցին մի աբսուրդ մեղադրանքով: Մեղադրանք՝ որի բոլոր հարցերին, բոլոր պատասխանները, այդ թվում՝ հրապարակային, տրվել էին դեռ 7 տարի առաջ: Այս կալանքը, այս մեղադրանքը իրավական պրոցեսների մասին չէ, հետևաբար ինձ կալանավորել են ազնիվ ընկեր, նորմալ մարդ լինելու և մնալու համար:

Այո, ես լավ հասկանալով, որ հրապարակային, առանց թաքնվելու կանգնելով իմ ընկերոջ՝ Սամվել Կարապետյանի կողքին, ով ապօրինի կալանավորված է մինչ օրս, մասնակցելով իր ազատության համար կազմակերպած ցույցերին, հայտնվելու եմ իշխանության տեսադաշտում և հնարավոր է իմ նկատմամբ էլ հետապնդումներ սկսվեն՝ գիտակցված գնացի այդ որոշմանը: Ավելի լավ է ազնիվ մարդու, լավ ընկերոջ համբավ թողնեմ իմ երեխաներին ու ապագա թոռանս, որը մոտ օրերս է լույս աշխարհ գալու, քան մարդիկ մտածեն, որ իմ ընկերոջ համար դժվար և ծանր պահին, վախեցա նրա կողքին կանգնելու՝ անձնական խնդիրներ չունենալու համար։

Խնդրում և  հորդորում եմ Սամվել Կարապետյանի ընկերներին և համախոհներին չվախենալ և համախմբվել։
Առաջիկայում առանձին կանդրադառնամ այն ամենին ինչ տեղի է ունենում իմ շուրջ, իմ փաստաբանական խումբը հանդես կգա նաև առանձին հայտարարությամբ, բայց ուզում եմ մի բան հստակ ընդգծել, որ պատիվ է Սամվել Կարապետյանի պես ընկեր ունենալը և պատիվ է նրա գաղափարներն ու տեսակետները կիսելը և հանուն նման ընկերոջ նաև զրկանքներ ու կալանք կրելը։
