Բացի դրանից, աչքերը տրորելու սովորությունը կարող է առաջացնել կերատոկոնուս՝ պրոգրեսիվ ոչ բորբոքային հիվանդություն, որի դեպքում եղջերաթաղանթը (աչքի թափանցիկ առջևի մակերեսը) դառնում է ավելի բարակ և ուռչում է՝ ստանալով կոնի ձև: Բժիշկները նշել են, որ կերատոկոնուսը հանգեցնում է տեսողության վատթարացման, իսկ ծանր դեպքերում պաթոլոգիան կարող է պահանջել վիրահատություն կամ եղջերաթաղանթի փոխպատվաստում:

Աչքերի համար վնասակար մեկ այլ սովորություն են անվանում բժիշկները հազվադեպ թարթելը։ Երբ կոպերը փակվում են, արցունքային հեղուկը հավասարաչափ բաշխվում է աչքերի մակերեսին՝ կանխելով չորությունը։ Սակայն ինտենսիվ աշխատանքի կամ ուսման ժամանակ այդ ռեֆլեքսն ավելի քիչ է ակտիվանում, ինչը հանգեցնում է կարմրության և չորության։

Փորձագետները խորհուրդ են տալիս էկրանների մոտ աշխատելիս պարբերաբար ընդմիջումներ անել և ավելի հաճախ գիտակցաբար թարթել աչքերը։ Եթե ցանկանում եք քորել աչքը, բժիշկները խորհուրդ են տալիս դիպչել ոսկրային ակնակապիճին, այլ ոչ թե ակնախնձորին։
