Հուլիսի 15-ի դրությամբ Արցախի մայրաքաղաքից անհետացել են բոլոր 25 արձաններն ու կիսանդրիները, որոնք կանգնեցված էին նշանավոր անձանց հիշատակին, ու տասնամյակներով ձևավորում էին քաղաքի մշակութային դիմագիծը։ Այս մասին գրում է Արցախի Մշակութային և Զբոսաշրջության Զարգացման Գործակալությունը:
«Այս փաստը հաստատվել է Google Earth-ի արբանյակային լուսանկարների վերլուծությամբ և ադրբեջանական սոցիալական ցանցերում տեղադրված հրապարակումներով։
Քաղաքի տարածքից ջնջված են.
Հայրենական Մեծ պատերազմի հերոսներ- մարշալ Հովհաննես Բաղրամյան, ծովակալ Հովհաննես (Իվան) Իսակով, օդաչու-աս Նելսոն Ստեփանյան։
Մշակույթի գործիչներ - Հենրիխ Բարխուդարյան, Հովհաննես Թումանյան, Խաչատուր Աբովյան, Վաղրամ Պապազյան, Շառլ Ազնավուր, Հովհաննես Այվազովսկի, իրավապաշտպան Անդրեյ Սախարով, (Ալեքսանդր Գրիբոյեդովի կիսանդրու ճակատագիրը դեռ ճշտման փուլում է)։

Տեղահանված քանդակների ճակատագիրը պաշտոնապես հայտնի չէ, սակայն, հաշվի առնելով ադրբեջանական իշխանությունների կողմից հայկական մշակութային ժառանգության ոչնչացման շարունակական պրակտիկան, բարձր հավանականությամբ կարելի է ենթադրել դրանց լիակատար ոչնչացումը։
Այս հուշարձանների արժեքը պայմանավորված էր ոչ միայն նրանց պատմա-մշակութային նշանակությամբ, այլև հեղինակությամբ․ դրանց հեղինակների թվում կային թե՛ հանրահայտ հայ վարպետներ, թե՛ միջազգային ճանաչում ունեցող արտասահմանյան քանդակագործներ, այդ թվում ռուս հայտնի հեղինակներ Սալավաթ Շչերբակովը և Գրիգորի Պոտոցկին, որոնք Այոազովսկու եւ Սախարովի արձանների հեղինակներն էին։
Լուսանկարում Ստեփանակերտի առաջին տապալված արձանն է՝ Ստեփան Շահումյան, որի անունով ավելի քան հարյուր տարի առաջ անվանակոչվել է Արցախի Հանրապետության մայրաքաղաքը»:
