Վատիկանը ցանկանում է ամբողջությամբ անցնել արևային էներգիայի, ինչպես դա հիմնավորում է Լևոն XIV-ը: Bloomberg-ի փոխանցմամբ, Իտալիայի կառավարությունը վերջերս հավանություն է տվել նախկին Պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսի առաջարկին՝ Հռոմից հյուսիս ընկած դաշտում արևային մարտկոց կառուցելու մասին, որը կարտադրի բավարար էներգիա՝ «ամբողջությամբ ապահովելու Վատիկանի պետություն-քաղաքի էներգետիկ կարիքները», ինչպես արտահայտվել է Ֆրանցիսկոսը: Նրա հետնորդ Լևոն XIV-ը սատարել է այս ծրագիրը՝ այն անվանելով օրինակ աշխարհի համար:

«Մենք բոլորս գիտենք կլիմայի փոփոխության հետևանքները, և անհրաժեշտ է իսկապես հոգ տանել ամբողջ աշխարհի, ամբողջ արարչագործության մասին», — ասել է պոնտիֆիկոսը: Արևային մարտկոցի տեղադրումը, որը դեռևս պետք է հաստատվի Իտալիայի խորհրդարանի կողմից, Վատիկանը կդասի այն սակավաթիվ երկրների շարքին, որոնք իրենց ամբողջ էներգիան ստանում են վերականգնվող աղբյուրներից: «Վատիկանի տանիքին արևային վահանակների և ամբողջությամբ էլեկտրական պապամոբիլի նման հատկանիշները պարզապես կանաչ զարդարանք չեն: Դրանք արտացոլում են Ֆրանցիսկոսի կողմից 2015 թվականի իր «Laudato Si’» հանրագրում արտահայտված աշխարհայացքը, որը դատապարտում է մարդկության կողմից բնապահպանական միջավայրի վատթարացումը կարճաժամկետ ֆինանսական շահի համար», — ասվում է հոդվածում:

184 էջանոց նամակը կաթոլիկ եպիսկոպոսներին կապել է կլիմայի խնդիրը եկեղեցու՝ սոցիալական արդարության առաքելության հետ՝ զգուշացնելով, որ ավելի ու ավելի խառնաշփոթ բնապահպանական միջավայրը կվատթարացնի արդեն իսկ զգալի գլոբալ անհավասարությունը և մահ ու տառապանք կպատճառի անթիվ միլիարդավոր ներկա ու ապագա մարդկանց, հատկապես խոցելիներին: «Ֆրանցիսկոսի կառուցած բարոյական փաստարկը բավականաչափ կարևոր էր, որպեսզի համոզի աշխարհի բազմաթիվ առաջնորդների միանալ նույն թվականին Փարիզում կնքված կարևոր կլիմայական համաձայնագրին», — ավելացնում է Bloomberg-ը:

Արևային ծրագրի առաջմղման հետ մեկտեղ, Լևոնը վերահսկել է «կանաչ» պատարագի ավելացումը եկեղեցու կողմից հաստատված 49 պատարագների ցանկում՝ տարբեր իրադարձությունների համար: Այն կոչվում է «Պատարագ արարչագործության մասին հոգ տանելու համար»: Պոնտիֆիկոսը առաջին անգամ այն անցկացրել է անցյալ ամիս Կաստել Գանդոլֆոյում գտնվող Laudato Si’ կենտրոնում՝ իր ամառային նստավայրում:
