Սուրբ Կույսի Վերափոխման տոնը Հայ Եկեղեցու 5 տաղավար տոներից մեկն է, որը նշվում է օգոստոսի 15-­ի մերձակա կիրակի օրը` օգոստոսի 12­-18­-ի միջև:

Ըստ ավանդության (Հակոբոսի նախաավետարանի և Հովհաննեսի պարականոն ավետարանի համաձայն)՝ երբ Ս. Կույսը մահացել է, առաքյալները նրա մարմինն ամփոփել են Գեթսեմանի պարտեզում փորված գերեզմանում: Բարդուղիմեոս առաքյալը ներկա չի եղել թաղմանը, և երբ օրեր անց մյուս առաքյալների հետ գերեզման է գնացել՝ հրաժեշտ տալու, գերեզմանաքարը վերցնելով՝ Ս. Կույսի մարմինն այնտեղ չեն գտել, այլ միայն՝ անուշաբույր պատանքը։

Եկեղեցու հայրերը, հիմնվելով այս ավանդության վրա, հաստատել են Ս. Աստվածածնի Վերափոխման տոնը` ընդունելով, որ նրա մարմինը փոխադրվել՝ վերափոխվել է երկինք:

Տոնը նախ նշվել է Երուսաղեմում, 5­րդ դարի սկզբին: Տոնակատարության կենտրոնն Աստվածածնին նվիրված այն տաճարն էր, որը գտնվում է Երուսաղեմից Բեթղեհեմ տանող ճանապարհի 3-­րդ մղոնի վրա: Հետագայում տոնակատարության վայրը փոխադրվել է Գեթսեման՝ այն վայրը, որտեղ գտնվում էր Ս. Աստվածածնի գերեզմանը, և օրը որոշվել է օգոստոսի 15-­ը:

6­-րդ դարում տոնը տարածվել է Սիրիայում: Նույն դարի վերջին Մորիկ կայսրը տոնը պարտադիր է համարել ողջ Բյուզանդական կայսրությունում։ Այս ժամանակաշրջանում տոնը տարածվել է նաև Հայաստանում։ 7-­րդ դարի սկզբին տոնն սկսել են նշել նաև Արևմուտքում:

Տոնական օրվա պատարագին հաջորդում է խաղողի օրհնության կարգը, և հավատացյալները միմյանց հետ կիսվում են օրհնված բերքով՝ վերապրելով տոնի ուրախությունը:
