Ցածր և ոչ կալորիական քաղցրացուցիչները արագացնում են հիշողության և ճանաչողական ֆունկցիաների անկումը։ Այս եզրակացության են եկել Սան Պաուլոյի համալսարանի (Բրազիլիա) գիտնականները։

Նատալիա Գոմես Գոնսալվեսի ղեկավարությամբ կատարված աշխատանքում վերլուծվել է ցածր և ոչ կալորիական քաղցրացուցիչների (LNCS) սպառման և ճանաչողական անկման միջև կապը։ Ուսումնասիրությունը հիմնված է Բրազիլիայի մեծածավալ նախագծի տվյալների վրա՝ նվիրված մեծահասակների առողջության ուսումնասիրությանը (Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health), որն ընդգրկել է 35 տարեկանից բարձր պետական ծառայողների։
Սննդակարգը գնահատելու համար օգտագործվել է սննդամթերքի սպառման հաճախականության հարցաթերթիկ, որի հիման վրա հաշվարկվել է յոթ տեսակի քաղցրացուցիչների ընդհանուր և անհատական սպառումը։
LNCS-ի միջին օրական սպառումը կազմել է 92,1 ± 90,1 մգ՝ 12,772 մասնակիցների մոտ։ Ութամյա դիտարկման ընթացքում պարզվել է, որ մինչև 60 տարեկան մարդկանց մոտ քաղցրացուցիչների օգտագործումը բաշխման վերին երրորդում կապված է եղել խոսքի սահունության և գլոբալ ճանաչողական ֆունկցիաների արագացված անկման հետ։ 60 տարեկանից բարձր մասնակիցների մոտ նման կախվածություն չի հայտնաբերվել։
Միևնույն ժամանակ, հատկապես արտահայտված կապ է դիտվել առանձին քաղցրացուցիչների՝ ասպարտամի, սախարինի, ացեսուլֆամ Կ-ի, էրիթրիտոլի, սորբիտոլի և քսիլիտոլի օգտագործման և հիշողության, խոսքի սահունության ու գլոբալ ճանաչողական ֆունկցիոնալության վատթարացման միջև։ Առանց շաքարախտի մարդկանց մոտ քաղցրացուցիչները կապված են եղել խոսքի սահունության ավելի արագ անկման հետ, իսկ շաքարախտով մասնակիցների մոտ՝ հիշողության և ընդհանուր ճանաչողական ունակությունների վատթարացման հետ։
«Ցածր և ոչ կալորիական քաղցրացուցիչները հաճախ ընկալվում են որպես շաքարի օգտակար այլընտրանք, սակայն մեր տվյալները ցույց են տալիս, որ դրանցից որոշները կարող են երկարաժամկետ հեռանկարում բացասական ազդեցություն ունենալ ուղեղի առողջության վրա», - նշել է հետազոտության համահեղինակ, բժշկական գիտությունների դոկտոր Կլաուդիա Կիմիե Սուեմոտոն։
