«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Վերնագրում նշված հարցը կարող է աննշան թվալ, բայց դրա հետևում թաքնված է հետաքրքրաշարժ պատմություն, որը լի է գործնական նկատառումներով, սոցիալական նորմերով և նույնիսկ ռազմական հնարքներով։ Տղամարդկանց և կանանց հագուստների վրա կոճակների տեղադրման (աջ և ձախ կողմերում) տարբերությունը ոչ միայն նորաձևության քմահաճույք է, այլև դարավոր ավանդույթների արդյունք, որոնք դեռևս ազդում են մեր զգեստապահարանի վրա։

Սկսենք տղամարդկանց հագուստից։ Ինչո՞ւ են տղամարդկանց վերնաշապիկները, բաճկոնները և վերարկուները կոճկվում ձախից աջ։ Պարզվում է, որ դա կապված է պատմության հետ, որտեղ գլխավոր դեր էին խաղում գործնականությունն ու գոյատևումը, այլ ոչ թե նորաձևությունը։ Վերածննդի դարաշրջանում, երբ տղամարդկանց հագուստը սկսեց ձեռք բերել այն հատկանիշները, որոնց մենք սովոր ենք, տղամարդիկ հաճախ կրում էին դաշույններ, իսկ ավելի ուշ՝ ատրճանակներ։ Շեղբը կամ հրազենն արագ հանելու համար անհրաժեշտ էր, որ աջ ձեռքը (մարդկանց մեծամասնության համար դա «հիմնական» ձեռքն է) կարողանար արագ բացել հագուստի կոճակները և հանել զենքը: Ի դեպ, այսօր էլ, ինչպես դարեր առաջ, հենց հագուստի՝ ձախից աջ կոճկումն է աջլիկներին թույլ տալիս արագորեն հանել ատրճանակը բաճկոնի տակի պատյանից։ Բացի այդ, այնպիսի վերնազգեստները, ինչպիսիք են կաֆտանները և ֆրակները, նույնպես նախագծվել էին այդ առանձնահատկությունը հաշվի առնելով։ Պատկերացրեք մի սուսերամարտիկի, որը փորձում է հանել սուսերը, բայց թևքը կամ պաշտպանիչը բռնվում են հագուստի եզրին՝ գրպանին։ Նման անհարմար պահերից խուսափելու համար էլ տղամարդկանց հագուստները սկսել են կարել ձախից աջ կոճկումով։
