«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Պղպեղը (տաքդեղ, ծիծակ, չիլի) մորմազգիների ընտանիքի ուտելի բույս է: Իսկ ինչպիսի՞ն է նրա պատմությունը: 1493 թվականին Հայիթի կղզուց Եվրոպա է բերվել Capsicum annuum պատիճապղպեղը, որը հայտնի է եղել Էկվադորում դեռ 6000 տարի առաջ։ Հնագույն ժամանակներից այն մշակվել է նաև Պերուում և Մեքսիկայում։ Պղպեղի պտուղները խոշոր են և գունավոր, սովորաբար պղպեղը աճեցնում էին պտուղներից կծու համեմունքներ ստանալու նպատակով: Պղպեղին կծվություն տալիս է ալկալոիդային կապսաիցին նյութը, որն առանց հոտի և գույնի է, բայց ունի կծու համ:

1912 թվականին ամերիկացի դեղագործ Վիրլբուր Սկովիլլը ստեղծել է կծվության չափման միավոր, որը հենց նրա անունով էլ կոչվում է: Սկովիլլը քաղցրացրած ջրով նոսրացնում էր տարբեր տեսակի չիլի պղպեղների սպիրտային էքստրակտները և տալիս էր համտեսողների խմբին՝ փորձելու և գնահատական տալու համար: Նա այնքան էր նոսրացնում այդ էքստրակտը, որ համտեսողներն արդեն չզգային կծվությունը: Արդյունքում նա ստեղծեց կծվայնության թվային սանդղակ՝ ըստ նոսրացումների: Օրինակ՝ «հալապենյո» պղպեղի կծվայնությունը ստացվում է 4500 միավոր ըստ Սկոնվիլլի (SHU): Սա նշանակում է, որ այդ պղպեղի էքստրակտը կորցնում է իր կծվությունը 1:4500 նոսրացման դեպքում: Ներկայում ամենակծու պղպեղն աճում է Անգլիայի Դորսեթ դքսությունում: Այն կոչվում է «Դորսեթյան օձ»: Դրա նախահայրենիքը Բանգլադեշն է: 2005 թվականին «Դորսեթյան օձը» թեսթավորվել է ամերիկյան երկու լաբորատորիայում, և ստացվել է ռեկորդային արդյունք՝ 923000 միավոր ըստ Սկոնվիլլի: Այս չիլին այնքան կծու է, որ անգամ նրա մեկ հատիկը ուտելիքը դարձնում է օգտագործման համար ամբողջովին ոչ պիտանի: Իհարկե, համարձակները կարող են փորձել, բայց դրանից հետո մի ճանապարհ ունեն գնալու՝ հիվանդանոց: Լրիվ պատկեր նկարագրելու համար ասենք, որ այդ պղպեղի հետ փորձեր կատարող դեղագործները հագնում են հատուկ սկաֆանդրներ և օգտագործում են հատուկ «տոքսիկոլոգիական խցիկներ», որոնք ունեն հզոր ֆիլտրեր և թույլ չեն տալիս կապսիացին նյութի որևէ արտահոսք: Չնայած դրան, ներկայում աշխարհում վաճառվում է ավելի քան 250000 հատ «Դորսեթյան օձ»:

Կապսաիցին ալկալոիդն ունի ցավազրկող, ախորժակը և մարսողությունը լավացնող, հակաբորբոքային, նիհարեցնող հատկություններ։ Չինացի գիտնականները կարծում են, որ կծու պղպեղը իջեցնում է արյան ճնշումը, սակայն չեն կարողանում ճշտել կապսաիցինի բուժիչ չափաբաժինները։ Աշխարհի գիտնականները ուսումնասիրում են նաև կապսաիցինի հնարավոր հակաօնկոլոգիական ազդեցությունը: Կապսաիցինը օգտագործվում է բոլոր տեսակի ցավերը մեղմելու համար՝ սկսած արթրիտի ցավից մինչև նեվրոպաթիկ ցավեր կամ մաշկային հիվանդություններ, որոնք ունեն ցավոտ քոր: Ավելին, կծու պղպեղը բարելավում է նաև նյութափոխանակությունը, ինչն էլ անմիջական կապ ունի երկարակեցության հետ: Բացի դրանից, չիլի պղպեղը նաև մարդկանց մոտ կարող է առաջացնել էյֆորիայի զգացում, երբ այն մեծ քանակությամբ է օգտագործվում։
