Շատերը պարբերաբար օգտագործում են միայն մեկ ականջակալ՝ այն համարելով հարմար լուծում երաժշտություն լսելը շփման կամ աշխատանքի հետ համատեղելու համար: Այնուամենայնիվ, այս սովորությունը կարող է հանգեցնել լուրջ առողջական խնդիրների: Մասնագետները զգուշացնում են, որ այս սովորությունը անբնական ծանրաբեռնվածություն է ստեղծում լսողական համակարգի վրա և կարող է հանգեցնել անդառնալի հետևանքների:

Լավ լսողություն ունեցող մարդիկ կարող են մտածել, որ իրենք չեն տուժում, բայց այս տեսակի ականջակալների օգտագործումից լսողության կորուստը տեղի է ունենում աստիճանաբար: Մարդը կարող է երկար ժամանակ չնկատել բացասական փոփոխությունները, մինչև դրանք ավելի ցայտուն չդառնան: Հետևաբար, կանխարգելումը և ականջակալների խելամիտ օգտագործումը կարևոր են բոլորի համար:
