Հնդկական Հիմալայներում գտնվող Ռուպկունդ լճում հայտնաբերվել են մի քանի հարյուր մարդկային կմախքներ, որոնք ցրված են նրա ափերին և լճի հատակին։ Այդ պատճառով լիճը ստացել է «Կմախքների լիճ» մականունը։
Տեղական լեգենդները պատմում են լեռնային կարկուտի մեջ հայտնված մի հին խմբի մասին։ Սակայն ոսկորների տարիքը և գենոմային վերլուծությունը բացահայտում են շատ ավելի տարօրինակ և դժվար բացատրելի մի բան. զոհերը բաժանված էին հազարամյակով և ունեին տարբեր ծագում։
Նրանց մեծ մասը հնդիկներ էին, սակայն ևս 14 մարդու ԴՆԹ-ն ցույց է տալիս Արևելյան Միջերկրական ծովի, ամենայն հավանականությամբ՝ հունական կղզու ծագումը։ Մեկ անհատի նախնիները, կարծես, ծագել են Հարավարևելյան Ասիայում։
Ռադիոածխածնային թվագրումը ցույց է տվել, որ տեղի բնակիչները մահացել են ավելի քան 1000 տարի առաջ, մինչդեռ այցելուները ժամանել են շատ ավելի ուշ, հավանաբար մ.թ. մոտ 1800 թվականին: Ավելի տարօրինակ է, որ ավելի տարեց խումբը, կարծես, եկել է Հնդկաստանի այն մասերից, որտեղ այս բնակչության ամենատարեց և ամենաերիտասարդ անդամների միջև տարբերությունը 200 տարեկան է:
Հայտնաբերված գանգերից մի քանիսը վնասվածքներ ունեին, որոնք համապատասխանում էին խոշոր կարկտահարության հետևանքով առաջացած վնասվածքներին, և գրեթե կեսը պատկանում էր կանանց: Այնուամենայնիվ, նմուշում ընդգրկված անհատներից ոչ մեկը միմյանց հետ ազգակցական կապ չուներ:
Հեղինակները կարծում են, որ նրանք ուխտավորներ էին, որոնք գնում էին մոտակա տաճար, բայց չեն կարողանում բացատրել ավելի ուշ հայտնաբերված մնացորդների մասին։
