«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.
Այսպես կոչված, Քաղաքացիական պայմանագիր կուսակցության առաջնորդի մոտ շտապած ու հայ հասարակության առողջ հատվածին տհաճ անակնկալ մատուցած սրբազանները հանրային դաշտում շատ անտրամաբանական մի խոսույթ շրջանառեցին, համաձայն որի, 1999 թվականի հոկտեմբերի 27-ին տեղի ունեցած Ամենայն հայոց կաթողիկոսական ընտրությունները ոչ լեգիտիմ են, և առաջարկում են նոր կաթողիկոսական ընտրություններ կազմակերպել։
Նրանք այդ կարծիքը հիմնավորում են այն ենթադրություններով, համաձայն որոնց, կաթողիկոսական ընտրությունների ժամանակ Ազգային – Եկեղեցական ժողովի պատգամավորները անկաշկանդ չեն եղել ընտրություն կատարելիս։ Իբր եղել են սպառնալիքներ և այլ անապացուցելի դրվագներ։ Մի պահ համարենք, որ Ազգային-Եկեղեցական ժողովի որոշ պատգամավորներ դժվարություններ են ունեցել կողմնորոշվելու, թե որ թեկնածուին նախապատվություն տան, և գտնվել են մարդիկ, գուցե չափավոր չարաշահումներով, ուղղորդել են նրանց ճիշտ ընտրություն կատարելու համար։ Կրկնեմ, պատկերացնենք, որ նման բան տեղի է ունեցել, քանի որ, ինչպես ասացի, այդպիսի պատմություններ շրջանառվում են որոշ կարգալույծ հռչակված հոգևորականների կողմից, բայց դա ինչպե՞ս կարող է հիմք դիտարկվել ու հարցականի տակ դնել ընտրությունների կանոնականությունը։ Նման բան չի կարող լինել, դա ընդամենը հիվանդ երևակայության ու չարամտության հետևանք է, որը հղի է կործանարար հետևանքներով։ Դրանով վտանգի տակ է դրվում ո՛չ միայն Եկեղեցու, այլ նաև Հայոց Պետականության ապագան, որը, հույս ունենք, կունենանք։
Այս «ընտրական» պատմության մեջ աբսուրդը նաև այն է, որ նման խոսույթ զարգացնող սրբազանները գնացել ու խոնարհվել են ՔՊ անվամբ կրոնա-քաղաքական աղանդի առաջնորդի առաջ և ուզում են, որ նրա ղեկավարությամբ էլ կազմակերպվի ավելի քան 1700 տարի անսասան գործող Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Եկեղեցու Գահակալի ընտրությունները։ Սա պարզապես մղձավանջի է նման։ Նման մտքերի ծանրության տակ միայն աղոթքով կարելի է պահպանել հոգևոր հավասարակշռությունն ու սանձել զայրույթը, ինչը և հիմա ես անում եմ։ Եվ ընդհանրապես, Եկեղեցու «բարեփոխիչները» թող իրենց մտքերը նախ բարեփոխեն, ինչը միանշանակ շատ ավելի օգտակար կլինի իրենց համար։ Սիրելի ութ թե տաս կամ գուցե մի քիչ ավելի կամ պակաս սրբազաննե՛ր, ձեր մեջ ուժ գտեք վերահաստատելու Նորին Սրբություն Գարեգին Երկրորդ Ամենայն հայոց ազգընտիր Վեհափառ Հայրապետի նկատմամբ ձեր որդեգրած հավատարմությունն ու վերանորոգել ձեր հնազանդության սրբազան ուխտը, որ ծնկաչոք արել եք Իջման Սուրբ Սեղանի առաջ։
