Գիտնականները ֆիքսել են Ուկրաինայում լքված ընտանի շների արտաքին տեսքի փոփոխություններ, որոնք, հետազոտողների կարծիքով, ավելի շատ նմանվել են իրենց վայրի նախնիներին: Չորքոտանիների հակադարձ էվոլյուցիայի մասին գրում է «Նյու Յորք Թայմս»-ը՝ հղում անելով «Էվոլյուցիոն կիրառություններ» ամսագրում հրապարակված հոդվածին:

Հաղորդվում է, որ կամավորներն ու անասնաբույժները հավաքել և վերլուծել են Ուկրաինայի ինը շրջանների պոտենցիալ վտանգավոր տարածքներում գտնվող 763 թափառող շների տվյալներ: Դրանց արդյունքների համաձայն՝ կարճ ժամանակահատվածում պատերազմական գոտիներում հայտնված շները ավելի շատ նմանվել են իրենց վայրի նախնիներին՝ գայլերին, կոյոտներին և դինգոներին:

Հետազոտողները նշել են, որ պատերազմական գոտիներում ապրող շները հազվադեպ են ունեցել կարճ դունչ, ինչպես ֆրանսիական բուլդոգները: Նրանց ականջները նույնպես փոխվել են. սրածայր ականջները ավելի տարածված էին, քան կախված ականջները: Ավելին, Ուկրաինայում թափառող կենդանիների մարմնի քաշը նվազել է, ինչը, մասնագետների կարծիքով, օգնում է նրանց գոյատևել:
