Գիտնականները շարունակում են հետաքրքրությամբ ուսումնասիրել առաջին հայացքից սովորական թվացող խնդիրը. ինչո՞ւ ենք մենք ընդհանրապես հորանջում։ Չնայած այն հանգամանքին, որ հորանջելը տարածված, առօրյա գործողություն է, դրա կենսաբանական գործառույթը մնում է մարդու ֆիզիոլոգիայի առեղծվածներից մեկը։ Նոր Հարավային Ուելսի համալսարանի եւ Neuroscience Research Australia-ի մասնագետների խմբի իրականացրած նոր հետազոտությունը թարմ տվյալներ է ավելացրել այս երկարատեւ գիտական ​​​​բանավեճին, գրել է Popular Mechanics-ը։

Փորձի ընթացքում հետազոտողները ՄՌՏ սքանավորման միջոցով հետեւել են 22 կամավորների՝ գրանցելով նրանց ուղեղում եւ արյան հոսքում տեղի ունեցող գործընթացները հորանջելու եւ դրա հետ կապված գործողությունների ժամանակ։ Գիտնականները պարզել են, որ հորանջելու ժամանակ արյունը եւ ողնուղեղային հեղուկը հոսում են նույն ուղղությամբ, մինչդեռ նորմալ պայմաններում դրանք շարժվում են միմյանց հանդիպակաց ուղղությամբ։

Այս երեւույթը ենթադրում է, որ հորանջելը կարող է լինել բարդ սիրտ-անոթային-շնչառական մեխանիզմ, որն ազդում է ուղեղի շուրջ հեղուկային դինամիկայի վրա։

Հավելյալ նաեւ պարզվել է, որ հորանջելը մեկ երրորդից ավելի մեծացնում է ներքին քներակի արյան հոսքը, ինչը կարող է կարեւոր լինել գլխի եւ ուղեղի արյան շրջանառության եւ ջերմակարգավորման համար: Այս ազդեցությունները հաստատում են այն գաղափարը, որ հորանջելը կարող է ոչ միայն «տաքացնել» կամ սառեցնել ուղեղը, այլեւ մասնակցել նյութափոխանակությանը եւ քայքայված նյութերի հեռացմանը՝ իրականացնելով նեյրոֆլյուիդների մի տեսակ «աղբամաքրում»:

Ավելի վաղ գոյություն ունեցող տեսություններն այն մասին, որ մարդիկ հորանջում են միայն թթվածնի պակասի կամ ձանձրույթի պատճառով, վաղուց կորցրել են իրենց ուժը. թթվածնի տարբեր խտություններով փորձերը չեն հաստատել այս վարկածը: Փոխարենը շատ հետազոտողներ կողմ են այն գաղափարին, որ հորանջելը դեր է խաղում ուղեղի ջերմաստիճանը կարգավորելու եւ դրա օպտիմալ ֆունկցիոնալ վիճակը պահպանելու գործում:
